Taxotere

Just got home from my first infuson of Taxotere. Glad to report that I did not have any of the reactions during infuson they were looking for. Two nurses stayed with me for the entire infusion time. New port work perfectly. Old one never worked perfectly. Anyway, all in all things are ok. Hopefully this drug will work for a awhile and give me a little more time to enjoy life and all it has to offer. Sam P.S. HER2 test indicates that I am not a Herceptin candidate. Little dissapointed in that. But there are other drugs I can move too.

    Good to hear
    Sam -

It's good to hear you made it through your first Taxotere treatment no worse for wear and that your new port is working well.

Praying that Taxotere is working its magic!

    Overnight Fine
No problems over night after infuson yesterday. Doc tells me days 7-10 seem to be the hardest and after that I should feel pretty good til next treatment in 21 days. If this extends my time, I can handle three bad days a month. I am fasinated that Taxotere is a completely plant based drug. Sam

great that you did so well
    Hi,
I was on Taxotere for 3 cycles for clean up. Glad you are doing so well. If they give you Neupogen shots try to take Clariten a day before, day of, and day after if the nurses and drs say it is all right. It can give you really bad bone pain, maybe it won't happen to you but I was glad I had oxycodone around and the nurses told me after my first cycle. It is a miracle about these drugs and glad you tolerated the infusion but it does a number on your system. Glad that this is an option for you. hope you have many, many days, prayers for you!!

    Clariten?
    Donna,
I am curious as to what the clarinet does? Rickie gets a nuelasta (similar to neupogen) shot after every chemo infusion. Does the clarinet help with the bone pain? Since Rickie has mets to the bones he always seems to have pain in his shoulder blades, but sometimes more after chemo and nuelasta. I am wondering if the clarinet might help.
    Thanks,
    Cheryl

    Cher think they are similar
    Hi Cher,
Since Neupogen and Neulasta do the same thing, help the wbc's, it probably would help. I did not know about this when I got my first Neupogen injection and got very severe bone pain in my long bones esp the femurs like a day after the injection. When I went back to get my next infusion, I told the chemo nurses and they said right away did anyone tell you about Clariten? No, so they told me to take it the day before, the day of and the day after the injection. I don't know why but it did lessen the pain, but still needed oxycodone but it wasn't as severe as the 1st time without it. I think and pardon the spelling it is a synergistic effect. I would check with Rickie's drs and ask them or the nurses about this. At my cancer center it was commonly told to the patients.Anything that helps is my motto. Good luck to you and Rickie and prayers always for you all. take care,

Glad to here from you Sam, as always, and good to know the chemo is not as bad as it can be. I have not yet had any of the taxene forms in any of my chemo cocktails so far. So you can bet I will be following you closely again and wishing you the best.
