Ulnar nerve

Anyone have a confirmed problem with an Ulnar nerve that can be linked to the H&N rads?

I have a pre-C history with such a problem, as a Neurosurgeon confirmed some 10-years ago, No Op was done due to previous Ops on my throat, and the scarring, etc. Over the course of months to follow the problem faded away, in terms of severity. Again, this was perhaps 10 years ago, and since then it's been a very minor concern.

My last rad was in 4/09. And, a little over 2-weeks ago the Ulnar nightmare was reawakened, and is continuous in the form of throbbing pain from my elbow to the tip of my little finger, just like 10 years ago. The Ulnar enters the spine around the neck, and it does make me wonder if the rads might be the cause.

Any input will be appreciated.

    If you had any of my doctors they would say without looking side affect of radiation. Sorry to hear this is starting again and more than likely you can relate it back to the rad treatment.

    I am on Lyrica for nerve problems with pain it does help; I also take 1 Tramadol with 2 Tylenol to help with pain. It brings me back to a normal again so I can continue to work and feel good.

    Kent, Connie has had problems with her Sciatic nerve a couple of times and it is very painful also. Just wanted you to know we are hoping this Ulnar nerve problem you are having goes away fast. Connie usually is prescribed pain killers to allow the sciatic nerve problem a chance to relax and settle down. Then it usually goes away soon after. Wishing you the best, Homer & Connie

    Hi Kent,

    I am also having problem with my ulnar nerve. I posted to another part of this page about this problem and my peripheral neuropathy. I am awaiting results from a cat scan on my neck. I had 35 rads. Two months after my last ttreatment I started to see serious side effects concerning my walking and the use of my hands. I will continue to read and post any updates on this condition. I also take a lyrica two times a day and it seems to help although I still cannot hold a pen let alone work at a job.

    Meet with my PCP on Monday, and now I got some info in the form of Lyrica to inquire about. MRI showed my problem, which was done in early-2004, to be at C-7, T-1. Think I'll suggest a wait and see before another MRI, though I realize an MRI, now, that could be compared to 7-plus years ago would be a good thing.

    Homer- I do feel for you and Connie. Never had Sciatic problems, but have heard it is very painful. Have chronic problems with the right-side Femoral, and once had a Physical Therapist tell me the Sciatic nerve's pain can be much worse. And that's a big Ouch.

    As always I am hoping and praying that you get the help you need my friend. To me the Lyrica was my miracle drug, praying it will work for you too.

    Kent, so sorry to hear of your recurrent nerve pain. Any nerve pain is bad in my book. I am praying for quick relief for you. I know how dibilitating nerve pain can be since Jim had nerve pain for 3 years to his ear canal prior to his diagnosis. I am praying for quick relief and no more recurrence.

    Dr/PCP decided to try a shot into the top of the elbow area. Said it's an anti-inflamatory, and also mentioned steroid. Was kinda-like a Cortisone, for how long the needle was in me, but he didn't say it was a Cortisone shot. Did say it'd take a couple days for it to do it's thing, so time will tell. Was hoping he'd mention Lyrica, but this being the first visit with this pain as the issue, and as the visit went, did not throw that past him. If this doesn't work, hope to then. With the history, doubt this will solve the problem, but am hoping it makes a difference.

    Cortisone

    Mostly for people with Rheumatoid Arthritis but I guess with all the radiation in our bodies the affects to every joint is the same. Hoping it works well for you my friend.

    Sorry to hear about the arm pain. And here I thought I was the only "pain" for you. And I know where that would be also.

    Here's hoping that shot does the trick!
