Ok, I am hispanic. I got a freebie wig from ACS. It was in good shape and close to the color my hair orginally was. Though I look so washed out. I look sickly. I took the look good feel good class, so I have and can do the make up but the wig still makes me look ugh.

I am considering going a lighter color but am having issues with the idea of a wig. I tend go around without any covering but winter is coming...it will be cold. I might be going to holiday parties.

How long after chemo does it take for us to look "healthy?"

    I went with a wig that was a lot more gray than my natural hair and my hair grew back with just as much gray in it--only curly.

    I don't know if you are too young to go in the gray direction but I got so many compliments on the mostly silver wig that you might think about something like that. Definitely take someone else with you when you pick out your next wig and go out into natural light before you make your decision.

    I never looked sick even when I was really ill--I even got tired of hearing people say how great I looked. I felt like saying "I feel a whole lot worse than I look." Then I noticed that the compliments were mostly coming from people who didn't know what else to say to me or who were in denial about how ill I really was. So maybe I didn't look that well after all.

    Its been 3 months since my last chemo and everyone tells me now that I look much healthier. My coloring isn't as pale and I gained some weight back. I too looked awkward with a wig so I just went bald or with a scarf.

    I had my last chemo
    on 9/16/2010 and in February of this year I finally had enough hair so my hairdresser could shape it up. I wore my bald head proudly and only wore a hat when it was cold. Everyone is different but I would have felt weird with a wig and didn't like the way I looked in the scarves I had bought pre-chemo. Do whatever it is you are comfortable with and you'll feel better.
