Occasionally staff from various organizations creates CSN accounts to announce events or raise awareness of their services. This is inconsistent with the purpose of CSN, which is for survivors and the loved ones of cancer survivors to share their experiences and practical tips and to support one another.
"Organizational" members are disallowed, as well as their posts announcing events and other offerings on discussion boards, in chat, or via any other feature reserved for individuals with cancer and their families' use.
At the same time, we are eager for members to know about the resources available to them. There are two areas of CSN designed for this purpose. One is the Member Resource Library where members may contribute information about other organizations, websites, books and other products, events, etc. The second is the announcements page.
The announcements page is the appropriate area for organizations to request that their events be posted. Announcements is the only area on CSN in which content is posted at the request of organizations (including ACS), researchers, journalists and others who represent an organization, agency, etc. We strive to maintain the boards and other areas of CSN for your exclusive use.
I will invite the Colon Cancer Alliance to submit an announcement request. Many of you are likely unaware that the CCA was a great help to us in recruiting colon cancer survivors for CSN when it was launched back in 2000. Current CCA staff may not even be aware of this, it was so long ago.
Best,
