Check the Superthread, tons of advice. Many people used l-glutimine, seems I am the only one having problems with it. Not fun but you will heal. I would take a break from work, your body is going through a lot right now. I had to sleep in recliner at this point, would choke on tissue in mouth, a lot of pillows would probably do also.

    Roll R's
I can't roll my R's either. I teach at a school where about 80% of the children speak
Spanish, I can't spit either--but I shouldn't because I am around 5 and 6 year olds. Can't blow out candles. Can't make the horse sound while singing old Mac Donald--but I am sure glad to be alive!

I didn't have the patches, but many here did....

You're right, unfortunately it's probably going to be at least as bad for a few more weeks after rads.

I didn't have the PEG, but endorse it if you need to get in enough nutrition for sure....

I had a regime' of the lidocane solution that numbed me up for a few minutes...then a few Ensure Plus, 1 - 2 glasses of water, a few sliced peached in light syrup and chased that with a ground up Oxy...several times a day for about seven weeks.

I had meds that ranged from liquid and pill oxy, hydrocodon, percocetys, to even liquid morphine... Though I couldn't handle the morphine...it did nothing for the pain and made me sick and queasy.

It's a rough diet for sure.....

Make especially sure of the hydration...can't preach that enough. Like you once all I wanted to do was sleep...the more I slept, the sicker I felt, the less I drank, the more I wanted to sleep... I was becoming de-hydrated...lcukily we caught it in time and never let that happen again.

You are taking in way less calories, if you are working, more than likely you aren't getting enough....

This is your lowest point on energy, you need everything you have for recovery....rest, rest, rest...work later.

    Best,
    John

    Yes to meds
This not the time to say no to drugs! Yes to fentanyl patches and roxicet for us. Mouth sores are tough to deal with. Peg tube comes in awfully handy when those mouth sores flare up!

    Fentanyl
If your mouth is one big blister, I cannot believe they haven't given you the Fentanyl yet. That's what happened to my mouth. My doctor started me on fentanyl pretty quickly because my mouth side effects quickly became severe.

I was eventual on 75 mcgs and I was still in pain. If that happens you might also be able to get something like liquid Roxicet for break through pain.

Definitely talk to your dr about this. It's better to control the pain before it's totally out of control. With fentanyl, you must change it ever three days, exactly when you need to. Write it down. Also DO NOT JUST GO OFF, and don't mess up on the timing or you will go through nasty withdrawal.

The L-glutamine can help with the mouth sores. One heaping tsp in a glass of water. Swish and swallow.

    Hang in there.

    LMAO
I used to be able to roll my R's. Cannot anymore. I used to be able to do the cherry stem trick in ten seconds and now I can't do that either. I can't even stick out my tongue anymore.

    You are a pip
You have a great sence of humor. Can't wait to see how the drugs influence it. LOL Keep thinking those great thoughts and stop work for now. You need all that energy and calories to heal. Jim's energy was non existant that last week of treatment and even less following treatment.
