Finally, A Plan

in Head and Neck Cancer #1
I just met with my chemo onc and he has a battle plan for me now. Briefly, I started with a parotid cancer and it spread to my lungs and lower back. I had a lung biopsy which confirmed it to be the same type of cancer that started in my parotid. My doc sent the sample to a lab which did gene sequencing to pick the best drug to fight the beasties. I had about given up hope that anything could fight this very rare type of cancer, but he says we have a fighting chance. And, the drug of choice is in pill form. So, starting Monday, I begin taking these things and hoping and praying. There is also the problem of convincing the insurance company to pay for these since he says they are very expensive. But, he thinks he can make that happen. If these don't work out, we go to the next one on the list. So, for the first time in quite a while, I can at least hope for a bit more of a future.

    Glad to see you've got a battle plan mapped out. Hoping the drug's OK'd by insurance, and you get to start soon. Even though I didn't like chemo, I was relieved to be doing SOMETHING. Do well.

    Happy to hear you have a battle plan and your doctor doesn't sound like he is giving up!!! I understand your fears about the insurance company paying for these pills. It is one of my biggest fears, that they will have a treatment plan that will work and I can't have it because I can't afford it.
