    Sadly, no idea on numbers
    Doc mentioned that 2 - 3 are enlarged, but when I asked about the number removed, he said didn't "hand pick" the nodes to take, but took what came away with the esophagus.

    Not sure from that comment if we will ever hear a number. He did tell me before surgery that 5 - 15 or 20 was his norm to remove.....

    His spirits are great this AM. Complaining loudly about the NG tube and a sore throat. Thanks for correcting me, Niki - I wasn't sure which was which.

    Also very anxious for "real" water and not just swabs.

    My husband had a THE type surgery too and the surgery time was about 3 to 4 hours. I believe the time difference is due to the different type of surgeries. His surgeon had assisted with MIE before and he said it took over 8 hours. I saw you had posted you were concerned about the shorter surgery time. No need to worry abouth that! Hope Nick is still doing well.

    Hey Terry,

    No worries our surgeon who had originally planned to do the THE told us 4-6 hours. He ended up doing the Ivor Lewis because of those two suspicious nodes. When they do an Ivor Lewis they remove a number of the mediastinal nodes, and reconnect a little lower in the chest. Jeff has a huge incision under his shoulder blade, be happy for the THE! I have also heard the MIE's take longer. One of the reasons the surgeons urged against the MIE for us was the length of the surgery would be increased because of a previous surgery. They said it could take 12-13 hours, that is not always good for the patient either. Although Dr. L's office said he gets his MIEs done in about 5 hours. I think the take away here is that surgeries all come in different shapes and sizes and lengths of time to perform :)

    We are all praying and hoping for more good news and a speedy return HOME for both of you!!

    All prayers, all the time, for all those in and about to be in for surgery.
    This is such great news to read and very encouraging to me too.

    Tell Nick to keep up the fight and the good work for he is doing great!
