Nauseous foods - post chemo
Here is why....during my first chemo infusion my sister Patty brought us back cheeseburgers and an order of deep fried cheese curds from the hospital cafeteria. I got so sick that night, and never being a big "cheesecurd" fan to begin with this put me over the edge and I can't eat them anymore (that's hard being from Wisconsin). Today's patty melt had the deep fried chicken strips with melted pepperjack cheese on top served on sour dough bread and ranch dressing. Sound good doesn't it? Well the fried grease from the chicken patty and the cheese smothered on top brought back old memories... Lesson learned.
Is there a food you can't stomach today due to cheno?

Yes
I was hungry one day during treatment I had my mom get me a market fresh sandwich from Arby's. Now I can't even think of Arby's without getting nauseous.0 -
No foods that still make me sick...
But how did I eat that tuna fish and broccoli for breakfast? Why with all the chocolate milk? (Had to be pre-made in the jug) Where on earth did that vienna sausage craving come from? I hadn't touched those for probably 40 years.
So my food cravings changed and have pretty well changed back.
Fun question Lorrie!

For the first few days after each chemo round, I had that constant, low-grade nausea -- not bad, but constant. So my heavens, yes -- I sure learned what our brains will do with that.
At my 1st chemo, the chemo nurse had brought fresh figs from her backyard tree for anyone who wanted them. I took a few home, and tried to eat them the next morning for breakfast. Ever since -- seriously -- even a *photograph* of a fresh fig makes me queasy. I subscribe to EatingWell magazine, which always has a gorgeous "food porn" cover -- one month last year, the cover was a glossy close-up of a fresh fig, and I swear I almost lost my lunch right there at the mailbox!
And then there's Will & Grace...my girlfriend was trying to get me something light and funny to watch after one of my chemo rounds, and bought the 1st season of Will & Grace on DVD. That 1st night after chemo, jacked up on the steriods, I stayed up most of the night watching it. Now...I actually get nauseous just hearing that piano music theme song. I'm seriously getting queasy right now just typing this....crazy!

Lorrie, in the long run, maybe it'll turn out to be a little blessing from the chemo angels if you end up disliking all deep-fried foods smothered in cheese?
Hey -- I'll make you a deal: You can eat fresh figs and Watch Will & Grace for me, and I'll make the big sacrifice and eat deep-fried food smothered in cheese for you....I'm a giver, Lorrie!

Gatorade
My chemo flashback drink is Gatorade. I cannot stomach the smell or look of the container. The memories of having to drink the stuff during chemo infusions to flush out the toxins leave me gagging. Certain soups leave me nauseous as well.0 -

non-fat or low-fat milk --- bad memories from milk during my chemo days. Chicken -- makes me ill, as well. I would rather watch an autopsy up close and personal than eat chicken, or drink non or low fat milk.

I am not a big "fried food" person. Well maybe with the exception of french fries, but remember I was the one hooked up to the IV drip. It was my sister who brought back such a unhealthy food selection. She drove me, she bought lunch, she stayed with me during my first two infusions so I kept my mouth shut and just ate and at that time I was told to eat anything that tasted good.
Now as for the "Chicken club melt" choice I made, well I was hankering for some chicken fillets so this sandwich sounded like a good choice. With all my walking, I can splurge once in a while. Well..... let me tell ya I felt like a child sitting at the table picking my food trying to find any morsel that wasn't covered with cheese. Oh well half the sour dough bun was good.
As for the fig.. I'll pass. LOL0 -

on this last treatment my husband and I went to Applebees because he didn't eat anything for breakfast and now even thinking about the name gives me nausea. Oh and the smell of alcohol too. Too bad I work at a clinic and its an everyday thing.

I'm craving things during chemo that I usually never eat.....so hopefully the foods that bring back nausea flashbacks will be ones I never want to eat anyway!!!
Sorry you weren't able to enjoy!0 -
Did anyone else read Gabby's post the way I did?sinai said:Yes

Gabby, when you said "I work at a clinic, and [the smell of alcohol] is an everyday thing," I swear my first thought was -- huh? You work at a medical clinic where the staff is passing around margaritas or something? I might like to come party with you guys, but am not sure I'd want to seek medical care there....:-)
I'm hoping you mean ALCOHOL, like the pads they use to disinfect your skin before they start the chemo IV?
You can certainly tell where my brain veers off to! Margarita, anyone?

Food
I slowly started to eat and now crave sweet things which I never did before. Hence, weight piling on and hitting the gym. For some unknown reason I now eat very well, enjoy my food where as before the cancer nothing seemed to appeal to me. Doesn't this all remind you of how we felt while pregnant.................0 -

My daughter fried her Dad some link sausages last Sat. for Breakfast, and the smell just about did me in. I filled a tea pot with water and mexican vanilla and put it on the stove for most of the day. Took care of the smell and the vanilla smell seemed to calm my nerves as well0 -

I'm still on chemo but I cant handle dairy products. Even though I'm at the end of the initial sick period, I still cant handle a bit of dairy. Tastes good at first but about 30 minutes later I get real nauseous till the next day or so...0 -

Kind of like being pregnant. When you smell or see food that made you sick when..... Your brain sort of remembers and suddenly you don't like it anymore.
This does sound like when you are pregnant and you crave and eat something and then never want it again.0
