I too burned pretty good, but we didn't have to halt treatments. I only had 28 regular treatments and 5 boosts, so I did 33 total. I can't imagine what I would have looked like had I went another week. YIKES....
All I can recommend is keep using your creams the doctor gave you. Cornstarch works great to remove moisture, but if you are wearing creams it's one goopy gob. I didn't think I would ever heal but within two weeks of ending my treatments I started healing really quick. Once radiation stops... the healing is fast. When my rads were done my doctor prescribed me a cream called Silver Sulfadiazine. That was some wonderful stuff... maybe ask your doctor about it if your burned pretty good. But you can't use it until after radiation because of the metal content.

It took a while for mine to heal, like 2 weeks, but it was on my bum, and burned and cracked in the crack, so it was a little harder as it didn't see a whole lot of air. But then had it again about 8 weeks later, and it didn't burn at all!

but it may not be. According to my Rads Dr 'It' keeps on 'cooking' for a while. Definately in my case. I only had a minor sunburn with the last TX but the next day the entire radiated area was 'open' and continued to get worse for weeks. Sulfadene/Silvadene is great for many but not all - IF you are allergic to Sulfa drugs it cannot be used. I was about to be sent to a burn unit but finally Domebro soaks worked. Probably about 1/2 the burned area healed with no scaring, 1/4 minor and 1/4 "good" scaring.

OK, I was the "bad rad girl"
I burned and peeled and my RO called a halt. 1st 1 treatment day and a weekend and then an entire week. It made my already bad raditude even worse. I finally got the script for the Sulfadene cream and it really did help. I also spent at least 30 minutes each a.m. and p.m. with nothing touching my skin but the breeze from a fan, as instructed by my RO. I also did not wear a bra or my prosthesis during that time, (nothing like a lop-sided woman) which made the wardrobe challenging. I was given cold packs, not frozen just cold, to use...I don't remember what they were called but looked like a thin round gel pack that you removed when it got warm, 2 times daily.
It was very frustrating to be so close to done and have to wait to finish, but I made it and you will too. All I could think was that I wouldn't be a rad grad, I couldn't stand to wait to be finished, I didn't want it to go on forever, I didn't want another calender page screwed up by treatment...and on and on and on. I have been done since 7/8/11 8 days later than planned but DONE.
If you haven't healed they may make you wait a little longer, or they may start again and stop again before the course is done. Hang in there, if I could do it with my crappy raditude you can too, it just takes us "fair ladies" a bit longer.

I had pretty bad burns, but made it through (just barely) without having to stop for a while. My nurse told me to get "Domeboro soaks" at the drugstore (no prescription needed) and I used those 3 times a day (morn., after afternoon rads, & at bedtime). I continued to work full time. Ask your nurse--the improvement was immediate! I used birdseye diaper fabric for the soaks that I got at fabric store. I also lined my bra (cotton-from Just My Size) with flannel squares from the fabric store. I am rather "generous" and I was a teacher, so I had to wear a bra every day. Hope you can get some relief!0 -

Thank you for the advice. I'm trying to keep positive about this and keep a sense of humor, but sometimes I falter. I am sooooo ready to be done with this part. It's been a long 8 months.0 -

I never burnt, but, I know some that did. They also were stopped for awhile until they healed somewhat. For me, once I was done with rads, my skin healed up really quick and looked great!
I hope that your burns get a lot better and you can finish. I will be waiting to celebrate your graduation with you.

Yes I also burned. The underarm seemed to be the worst spot. It was the first to burn and the last to peel. It seems that once it started peeling it felt better. I had 33 treatments 6 were boost. I ONLY HAVE 1 MORE TO GO!!!!!! My Dr. said frozen peas and the cream. Frozen peas come in all sizes but the small microwave packs worked perfect for me. Try to keep a very small pillow under your arm ( not the pit)to keep it aired and so it will not rub. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon.

So happy you are getting a rest from the rads. I too burned and took a long time to heal. I am very fair skin and light eyes and hair. It took so long but the silver stuff and aloe helped me. I used cornstarch some of the time also. My prayers are with you. Just know it will get better. Just seems like it takes forever. I will say an extra prayer for you.

I didn't burn from rads but I know I was real close..got really dark red. I used Aquaphor to keep my skin really moist, dove white soap, unscented, and Biafine for any burning that I might get. I know some have burnt badly, but, I don't know what they used.

Healed in one spot now blistering and peeling in other spots. Radiation halted for a second week. Honestly, I don't know how they would do any treatments with what my poor skin looks like. Putting Silverdine cream on it. It is healing, but looks very yucky.Now it is blistering where I can feel it and it is most uncomfortable, but I try to power thru. Really like having nothing touching the skin, but with children in the house, can't do that while they're up. :0)0 -

I have 6 more radiation treatments to go (total of 28) and I'm starting to get pretty red.
Started with Aquaphor, which gave me a rash, now using Calendula Gel (got it from Whole Foods) which feels SO soothing on the red area. Just got a prescription for sulpha cream today to use for the rest of the time.
Yes, I've also heard you keep "cooking" for awhile after being done.
I know how frustrating it can be to feel that you are never getting "done" with treatment...it's been a long nine months for me with chemo, surgery and now radiation and sounds like it's been like that for you too.
Telling myself "This too shall pass" - helps me to hang in there.

Back when I had radiation if
Back when I had radiation if the burn was bad enough they would give me Radia Care Gel sheets which were quite soothing. They stay in the fridge and when applied they are cool which feels great. They are expensive, they are sold on Amazon here is a link.

Another thing that you can do while having radiation is to lightly dust the radiated area with corn starch (yes the stuff in your kitchen.) I was instructed to made a corn starch dust ball of sorts using cheese cloth or a stocking (sock) tying off the end. This really worked well as it made it easy to apply lightly. The cornstarch helps to keep the radiated area from chafing.
I also used sween creme and aloe both of which worked well.0
