Great News!! Possible wrong diagnosis

I was able to speak with the onc today. Now, it is beleived that my husband's cancer isn't cancer at all. The initial biopsy showed small-cell lung cancer (which was performed at a different hospital). The biopsy which was performed August 28th showed a fungus infection called aspergillus. This particular fungus can spread to the brain just like the cancer does. He has multiple leisons on his brain and several on both lungs. The infection can be life threatening, but if the diagnosis is right this time, at least it isn't cancer and he has a better chance of survival. has anyone else ever experienced this?

Great news today!!!

    Updated Information to wrong diagnosis
I just got off the phone with the hospital. My husband is being released to the prison hospital. They are going to continue with the IV antibiotics and take another CT Scan in 4 weeks for re-evaluation. I really needed this news! For now, they are not treating it as if it is cancer. That can be a catch 22. I was told the first biopsy could have been performed in a totally different spot than the second one. They are going to have to compare pathology reports.

Sure sounds like much better news than before! I do not know anything about aspergillus but my interest is peaked, so I will have to google it. I know you are probably feeling somewhat better emotionally. Stay strong and keep us posted. Sending healing thoughts your way! Cheryl

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I will keep everyone posted. I googled it and from what I have read, it can spread to the brain just like cancer. However, what I don't understand is a biopsy comeing back as stage IV or extensive lung cancer. I will keep you informed. Something to think about.
