Hello to my other family. I still continue to lurk on my iphone ( sweet i dont know how you do it)

Moms doing really well (tonsil)... struggling with fatigue and still cannot taste.

Anyway, dad just called me to tell me a biopsy on his face was positive for SCC! i didnt even know he was going for a biopsy! His dermatologist did not answer any of his questions and booked him for Mohs surgery ( excision) in the office ...

the skin cancer board does not appear as active as this one ...

i know many people have SCC of skin just removed and "over with" .. but after everything with my mother im of course in panic mode..

i feel that i want an oncologist to do the procedure as opposed to his bozo dermatologist ..

what do you think?? its never "jumping the gun" when it comes to cancer right??

    Sorry to hear this is on your Dad now, my brother also has this problem but controls it the natural way rather then through medical.

    Talk to your dad and ask him what he wants to do and then move forward with what you feel best for him, it is never to early to start treatment.

    Wow, that is kind of a shock. I cannot really help with the SCC skin cancer, only to say that my step mom and both her parents keep having stuff removed off of them, but it's 'just' with a dermatologist. My ex MIL has had basal cell removed, and it's only been with the dermatologist also. Too bad Scambuster isn't here because I think he had SCC removed, would have been helpful to get his take. I am not sure what I would do if it were I. Will keep your dad in my thoughts. Glad your mom is doing really well.

    Isn't it hard to see on this stupid iPhone! Imagine putting the superthread together on it. That is why I have a canary everytime someone posts to it, because it is such a pain to repost and edit it. Also, I am on 3G but have a very week signal and my phone and posting is - S L O W. A lot of times I get booted off here, and when a thread gets too long, I cannot load it. Which is why I don't want people to bump the superthread. Lol. I am trying to save for an iPad. Trying to figure out what I can sell besides my old jewelry to make that happen. :)

    I know several people that have had SCC on their skin, usually treated by removal or some types of creams or ointments or combination. A lot of them have had recurrence, but thankfully they have all been treated with nothing more than that.

    Of course cancer is cancer and if undetected or untreated it can lead to much worse consequences.

    I'd presume that the dermatoligists would be qualified, and if not would refer you to a specialist.

    I would think that a dermatologist could handle excision of scc of the skin. Melanoma requires an entirely different approach because it can be deep.

    Mohs & SCC
    My mom was similarly treated for SCC via Mohs about six years ago. It was a one-treatment experience for her followed by maybe a week of ointment and dressing changes. They take off a layer, check it under the scope, take off another layer, check again and stop when all is clean. I understood at the time that there was a chance that there might be a need for a second treatment, but that didn't pan out. So long story short--not a big deal. "Surgery" seems to be a misnomer in this case.

    not to worry
    My husband has had several SCCs removed by dermatologist, some deeper than others but a simple "surgery" done in office under local. Bandage and ointment and all was well.

    I have had squamous cell
    I have had squamous cell cancer removed from my face. Clean margins, no furthur threatment. Moh's is specialized, they remove layer by layer until clean margins. Doctors have special training for Moh's.
