Just updating....
As most of you "oldies" may remember I was treated for NSCLC in left lung and Laryngeal cancer in 2009. Everything went into remission and I've been able to enjoy life...until February 2011 when the CT scan showed "subtle changes". May scan showed some increase in size, I thought this was for the cancer previously in my left lung. Wrong, a PET scan in June shows I now have growth in my left lung again, some new growth on lymph nodes in center of chest and a 2 inch tumor in the right lung.
In the past 2 months I have seen a thoracic surgeon, pulmonologist and pulmonary physical therapist in hopes of getting my lungs stronger so they could do a VATS wedge resection and biopsy. Unfortunately I found out Monday that this is not meant to be, all the doctors agree that surgery would be too risky so they are going to proceed with chemo and radiation instead. I am now on oxygen 24/7 and the therapist said my lungs are so bad that I will probably always be on oxygen. I see my oncologist tomorrow and my radiologist next Thursday, hoping they have a good plan so I can kick it's azz again. They bought me 2 years last time so I am planning on at least 5 years this time I'm greedy and always want more!!!
I have been stopping by occasionally and reading some of the posts, trying to catch up with everyone and see how you have all been doing. It's so sad to see all the newcomers I'm happy that they have found this site but so sad that they need to be here. I'm on the lung cancer forum more now but will stop in and say hi and check up on all my favorite people. You have all been wonderful to me through all of this and I would still like to be able to help others when I can.
Love you all!!!
Glenna

I gotta believe that if they said no to the VATS, then that is not the best course of action, and that this will be the better course. Five more years sounds good to me!
Always in my prayers. xoxo0 -

You know I am with you all the way! You are an amazing, strong woman and inspire me to keep fighting! My prayers and thoughts are with you always! I hope the Drs. came up with a good plan for treatment. Love & Faith, Patty
Thank you all for your positive thoughts, prayers and mojo!!! You are all the reason I can remain positive and upbeat. Whenever I feel down all I have to do is come back here and read all of your responses again and it reminds me that I am not alone. God bless you all for that!!
Got my game plan yesterday...carboplatin and taxol once a week in 3 week cycles with a scan after the 3rd session to see if there are any changes. No radiation I don't start until Sept. 22nd because he put me on antibiotics first because I have coughed up slightly greenish phlegm a couple of times and they want to make sure there is no active infection going on.
Says he can't cure it but can treat it so I'm praying he can buy me plenty of time...maybe there will be a cure by then LOL...I'm an optimist!!!
Thank you all again, you are the greatest and I love you all!!!0 -

Glenna, So sorry to hear this news. I have my fingers crossed for you. You were the 1st to reply to my 1st post back in Oct.2010. I pray the chemo will back off the C. and your tumors will shrink. You have helped so many people here with your positive attitude! Homer & Connie0 -
Good to hear from you

Thanks for the up-date, hope the infection goes away soon and will have you in prayer thought out your new treatment. It is nice to know that when Gods people get damaged he has a repair shop for each of us.
Still in Gods workshop

He might not see it as curable, doesn't mean that's not how it will play out....
Carboplatin isn't that bad... I had it weekly for seven weeks, just Zofran for occasional nausea if any.
Can't speak of the other, never had that one....
Best,

So sorry to hear that you are battling lung cancer. Sending love and prayers your way. Karen
Thank you all for your concern and encouragement. Saw my pulmonologist again yesterday, my knees, legs, ankles and feet have been swollen and sore for a few days and I was running a slight temp (100.7) at night. He put me on 2 different types of inhalers a diuretic and potassium chloride. I hope the diuretic helps because my legs and feet are really uncomfortable. Last night my temp was only 99.4 which is much better, I'm just impatient, I want all the pills to work immediately!!! LOL
Hanging in there and trying to stay healthy for the next 21 days so I can start chemo. Not anxious for the chemo but want to start doing something to fight this, I'm not good at sitting around and doing nothing.
I'm still gonna kick its butt!!!!!!!!
Love you all,
