Thanks from a Lurker

A thanks from someone who has never posted--or even joined--but relished the ideas and stories. I am in the final week of radiation for tongue cancer. 42 radiations, 2 chemo (Cisplatin). Prior to that, I had a tumor in my tongue (HPV+) removed through TORS robotic surgery and a partial neck dissection removing 44 lymph nodes.

While your stories and advice often scared me to death, I also got great information and advice. I'm one of those extraordinarily lucky people who went through radiation and chemo without any pain or mouth sores. Never took more than a couple of Tylenol. I ate normally--although the food is awful--throughout and lost only about 10 pounds during that part of treatment. I worked almost every day, moving to p/t and working from home during the last few weeks. Not a lot of people get to tell that story, so there is hope out there that radiation/chemo can sometimes go very well (only did radiation to my neck, which helped a lot).

Again, thanks for all the great ideas about food, dealing with thick mucus, loss of taste. The advice was encouraging and helpful

    Welcome
Too bad you have to be here but it is nice to hear from you.
I'm very glad to hear that you made it through treatment without too much discomfort.
As someone who has not gone through radiation/chemo but always feared possibly having to it is nice to hear a story like this.

    I've lost about 40 pounds
I've lost about 40 pounds overall, but most of that was after the surgery. I was very fortunate to be able to eat solid(ish) food 24 hours after the main surgery. I was overweight (6'2, 280), so the 40 lost pounds have actually improved my blood pressure.

Sorry you have the dreaded C but happy your treatment was fairly unpainful. Praying your recovery is just as uneventful.
