But I don't feel sick...

I was very sick before I had my surgery in May. I've tolerated the chemo well overall (I've had 3 treatments). Anyway, some family members will say "you're sick." I don't feel sick! I'm up and about, feeling better than I have in several months. I know they mean well, and are just concerned, but I don't feel fragile! :)

Has anyone else experienced this? I guess more than anything I don't like being reminded of this stupid, horrible disease!!

You are so lucky to be feeling well. I never experienced what you describe because I was sick, really, really sick during most of my treatment. I do recall telling a nurse practitioner, though, who adminisered my IV vitamin C, and who called me a sick puppy a few times, not to call me that because although I was sick, I was slowly getting better as my treatments progressed. Just tell your family members that it isn't helping you emotionally when they tell you that.

I am very thankful to have
I am very thankful to have done as well as I have so far. The 3rd treatment however was harder on me than the first 2. I'm sorry you have been so sick. I tell my sister (who I live with) that I don't feel sick. I think part of it is that we all tend to think of anyone with any disease as being sick. I know a man in ARK who was supposed to be dead about 13 or 14 yrs. ago. His cancer has laid dormant all these yrs. A clinical trial was used on him and obviously it worked! I never thought of him as sick because he worked, did anything he wanted or needed to do.

Thanks for your response. I do have so much to be thankful for. I just try to push this disease from my mind, but as we all know, that's very difficult.

    Best wishes to you.

    It's okay
Being sick is in the past for me. Now I'm feeling great. Glad you're feeling well too.

Even my cancer is advanced I
Even my cancer is advanced I didn't feel sick. I had the temp ileostomy and i told everyone that it was worse than the cancer and it was the only thing that reminded me of being sick. To this day I am grateful for taking treatment well.

    Acting well
    Dear Mom2

I think you are on the right track to refuse to be labeled as "sick." I could never have believed how well a person can feel with cancer or after cancer. I consider myself a well person now even though the doctor hasn't declared that I am NED (only on a break since the cancer was dormant).

I know I had family members who kept thinking of me as fragile too because they saw how sick I was. Just keep acting well & you will convince everyone (including yourself)!

    (((hugs)))

    Walk
Thankfully, I had no problem with chemo and once that was over and started putting my weight back on - I felt amazing. Nearly a year and a half from my diagnosis, people tell me I look very well.

During my chemo, a couple of blunt spoken friends did say I looked too thin and sick but they're sure not saying that any longer!

I am so very thankful I have done so well so far.

    Don't hide your feelings
    Anne,
Don't pretend to feel differently than you do. Be honest about your health so that those around you know what is going on with you. It is important that they know. At the very least, you could respond that you wish you felt as good as you look. Hope you feel better soon.

I have just a few days that
I have just a few days that I feel sick. Usaully the 5th thru 7th day after treatment and usually I feel good the other days. I have 3 "work mothers" that try to make me go home early and rest even though I feel fine they say I look pale, gray or like I don't feel good. I appreciate their concern but I'm going to work everyday that I can and stay active. I refuse to let chemo/cancer rob me of my joy and being productive.

    My friends
I get this too, Anne, but I think it's more that my friends are just being polite when they say "You look great", so I say "Thanks" and move on, even thought I too feel like crap most of the time!

Think positive. and have a daily dose of VITC
    Hi,
I've lost my mom and last year my brother to cancer. They don't believe much on alternative medicine.
I've done a few research and also info from close friends that having a daily dose of vit. C before meal, 3x a day is a great cure for fighting cancer. I have not proven this yet but hope this info may help.
Any local citrus fruits will do. Common conotation of eating citrus food alone before meal is that it's acidic. but based from a source it became acidic once you put sugar on it. (not yet self-proven).

A friend of my father started drinking a local citrus fruit called calamansi fruit 5pcs (concentrated) before meal. then increase the quantity then. His cyst near the anus disappear.
