Hi I was just wondering if anyone has experienced IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) as an "extra" problem and unconnected to PPC? I have recently had an ultra-sound of my tummy and I have NO ascites yet I become bloated after every meal. I feel full and often get bloating in the evening. But during the day when I am moving around and inbetween meals my tummy is OK.

I was diagnosed with IBS a few years before I got PPC and I was wondering if my symptoms are connected to my PPC or just IBS???

    I have IBS. I think the side effects of PPC are so similar so that is a tough question. I am even starting to think that i am gonna get more frequent colonoscopies because i am starting to feel that if u have these bowel problems than maybe they lead into this cancer. My aunt had colitis, my mom has colitis and both got ppc. Just a coincidence maybe. I had IBS when i was like 13 and mine was mostly like constipation for like 5 days and if i ate basically anything i would get pains and diarhhea.
    Now earlier this year i started with the constipation, bloating, upset stomach, nausea. I scheduled a colonoscopy but canceled it numerous times. I am like headed on the same track as my mother. She was my age when she got colitis, and now look where she is at.
    I think that u could have IBS. Hell they say alotta times it comes from bad stress. I would say cancer causes stress. But if you look up the symptoms of PPC, they are identical to IBS.

    Hi: I, too, have colitis that wasn't diagnosed until I had the gallbladder cancer removed, had severe bleeding when I started chemo, and then had a colonoscopy. And of course I have secondary peritoneal cancer. One of the oncologists on my "team" told me he thought that some of these gastro-intestinal cancers (re their location) like gallbladder and PPC did in fact originate in the gastro system (i.e. the colon). I'd get the colonoscopy.

    Sorry, but I can't help at all. I know that all our family have regular colonoscopies because bowel cancer runs in our family over generations. My younger sister had bowel cancer at 49, nearly 10 years ago this year, no recurrence thank God. But none of us has ever had IBS.

    The symtoms you describe, I suppose could be either. I've only read of them in relation to periotoneal and ovarian (and uterine??) cancer.

    No help me.

    IBS issues
    Hi everybody -- my mother's oncologist said that the IBS symptoms she's been dealing with for 10 (or so) years were probably a manifestation of the early stages of the peritoneal cancer (diagnosed Feb 2010), so the two items are definitely related--don't treat them as separate.

    Hi Tina,

    Mums IBS problems she had before diagnosis of the ppc is probably the early stages of the cancer as mums oncologist says. Now it is even worse but hoping to get better as mum is up from bed.. Hopefully it will be much better with the chemo working for you?

    Yes my IBS is my cancer back
    Thanks for your imput. Its official, my cancer is on the move again. Im asked my oncologist "why am I so bloated?" He explained that the small cancer cells inside the abdomen attach themselves onto the small intestines, the stomach and the large intestines (bowel) The cells then cause the motion of the food that passes through to be slow and sluggish. This then gives off gas and so on.

    I have been taking medication for IBS - buscopan and my doctor said that was good. However as soon as the chemo starts working I am hoping it all goes away.
