In case anyone is interested in reading a fascinating, gripping history of cancer, get "The Emperor of All Maladies," by Siddartha Mukherjee. My oncologist suggested it to me, and I loved it. The author is an oncologist and the book is up for a Pulitzer.

    I wholeheartedly agree- the history part is fascinating all the way from the middle ages to the founding on the ACS and other organizations. I am not a science student and at times I had to work hard to understnad the more technical parts but I hung in there. It also help to understand why new breakthroughs can be frustratingly slow as most of the new "Targeted" treatments involve mapping the genomes and there are such huge numbers with enen 40-50 for a single type of cancer.
