I tried neurontin and lyrica
I tried neurontin and lyrica for my pain. I can't take either one of them. I could only take them at night because they just knocked me out, and left me feeling out of it all day the next day, and they didn't make enough of a difference in the pain for me to continue taking them and feeling so zombie like. i have a 2 yr old that is non-stop from the moment she wakes up until she goes to sleep, so I can't go around feeling so exhausted. I hope you get some relief though!

Neurontin
I have been on Neurontin and now on Lyrica. I have chronic pain from lymph node removal under the left arm and neuropathy in both hands and feet. Dosage for Neurontin was 1200 mg, I should have had 1800 mg, but could not tolerate it. I was in loopyland, but since I am an old lady, everyone assumes anyway I have a slight case of dementia. Doctor switched me to Lyrica, slightly less loopy during the day, but still can't find words, bumbled around, however, pain without it is very bad. I am currently on 120 mg, 75 at night, 75 during the day. Gained weight on both drugs and some swelling in the lower leg. Neurontin is generic (Gabapentin) and costs only a fraction of Lyrica, I may have to discontinue Lyrica since I'll be soon in the Medicare doughnut hole!

Hi Molly Z
I have been on Neurotin for nerve damage in the axilla and chest area. I had two lymph node dissections, and the last one left me with some pain. I also have a torn supraspinatus tendon and chronic bursitis, osteoarthritis in the left shoulder. Hard to know what really is causing the pain. I take mine just before bed at night.
Are you on aromatase inhibitors? If you are, I hope you are taking some sort of bisphosphonates to help make your bone stronger.
Best wishes,

I'm 62 and have had osteoarthritis for the past 12 years. Since being on Arimidex (started in January) my pain was somewhat worse. Every time I have a procedure done I have to stop my arthritis medication. My rheumatologist tried me on Neurontin 300mg at night for one week and the 2nd week I took 600mg. Well, by the 2nd day I was so loopy I couldn't function. Needless to say I called my dr and went back to 300mg just to wean off. She's now talking about trying Lyrica but I don't like having these side effects. I get bone density tests done yearly and praying that my osteopenia doesn't get any worse. There is osteoporosis in my family and I can't take Fosamax because of swallowing difficulties. Let us know what your dr recommends.

Hi Mollyz, i'm doing ok. I got cortisone injections in both hips that helped the pain immediately, unfortunately they have now worn off & im back to shuffling but, i had physical therapy to strengthen my legs & knees, and i joined a gym & do weight training 3x a week, and cardio 2 days. That being said, my hips are absolutely terrible. I take percocet twice a day along with ibuprofen. The majority of the joint pain I had was gone, now I just get really bad pain in my hands (the tops of them, along the tendons) and fingers, and my hips. I have bursitis, which I really don't know much about other than it hurts!

I use a cream called "Voltaren Gel" on my knees and shoulders. It's a prescription and works to keep down the inflammation.
I also use a Lidocaine patch on my ankle. It is suppose to work for 10 hours but 3 is the best it gives. However, it does help me to walk. I also wear a brace on that foot.
A fentalyn patch might be needed for overall help. It helps me a lot.
Best to you all,

Hi, I am on the generic form
Hi, I am on the generic form of it, Gabapentin at 1800 mg a day. I take it for the post mastectomy pain syndrome resulting from the bilateral mastectomy and node dissection. It works very well for my nerve damage pain. I tried going off it for two weeks (was trying to figure out which med was making me sick and it wasn't that one) and man did my pain get even worse. It can make me loopy or tired some times, but the pain relief is worth the side effects. I am also on amitriptolyne 25 mg a day for pain and sleep at bedtime. I truly hope you find some medicine that gives you relief from your pain!0
