THE REAL DEALPam M said:Put Down the Lighter
I have heard (no personal experience) that marijuana can be successfully vaporized. You get the effects of the mj with no fire/paper burning.
My name is Sam, posting under my wifes nick here. Intresting points being brought up about cannibus and its applications for fighting the terrible C word. Being a very long time advocate of medicinal cannibus myself way before I was diagnosed with Tonsicular cancer (HPV) I used cannibus to treat my bi polarity. For yrs in combination with regular rx's cannibus helped stabilize my mood swings on a regular basis. But during this time I was a very heavy smoker of cigs, two packs a day for 24 yrs, along with smoking the cannibus it did weigh heavily on the lungs and I often wondered how much damage I was doin rather then good. Then right when I was diagnosed with the stage four throat cancer I quit cigs and invested in a top of the line VOLCANO vaporizer. HUGE difference. Herein lies the problem....After my initial treatments of chemo and radiation, my taste buds and smell were affected to such a degree that I could no longer vape or even ingest the cannibus without my stomach being upset by it. Def. not something I wouldve ever imagined, yet I truly use and know REAL medicinal GRADE THC. After much thought and soul searching on the net by my lovely wife, she found lollipop recipies and hard candy recipies, so we made some very exp. butter out of the cannibus and infused it into the lolli's. WOW! After several batches we realized that its just going to have to wait til I am able to regain my taste, as they are still too strong in flavor. But we did clarify all this through the docs beforehand and they did agree that cannibus can does and will ease alot of the nausea often exp. with the treatments of cancer. They even offered scripts of MARINOL which is a government rx for cannibus. I refused this as marinol isnt proven too contain medicinal grade thc, or a high enough percentage of it to satisfy my palate...lol What can I say I have champagne tastes on a beer budget! Anyhoo, I hope this helps someone out there realize that there is hope and other ways to beat the nausea bug.0 -
Jeez
Linda,
Obviously a lot of people here who smoked at one time! I was one, I quit 22 years ago. I went for a standard x-ray within the last couple of years. The tech came out from the viewing screen and said, "You're a smoker, huh?" I said, yeah, twenty-two years ago. It was still there. I'd heard the effects were supposed to go away.
When I was kid, smoking was cool. Just watch some 40s, 50s movies. I have a friend in his mid 80s. He was in the war. He said a doctor came to his barracks one time and assured the troops that smoking was in no way bad for their health. Just jump in your car (no seatbelt), light up, and take off. Kinda not too smart in retrospect. Smoking, HPV+, and lowered immuno-defense systems invite cancer, they don't cause it.
I quit the day a doctor told my then wife that her benign breast cysts might become malignant from smoking. I stopped that day, and so did she. No problem. Tell your husband he's misunderstanding the situation. Tell him not to invite it.

My HNC is most likelyLelia said:Quitting
I agree you can't *make* him stop, although you quitting is strong medicine, congrats on that.
Not sure how you quit, but I took the advice of a friend who to my astonishment quit his 2 pack a day Camel diesel habit: Get the patch, even if you don't feel quite ready. I recommend the clear 21 mg patches, any store brand will do (do buy clear though, so much better) and one of them always is on sale; sometimes Nicorette brand has bogo deals on their clear patches and ends up cheaper. The 21 mg clear patches make you actually forget to smoke, it's great.
I bet like all of us you have those prepackaged alcohol wipes around, donated by your doctor's office. Dispassionately explain that when he's ready, clean a non-hairy spot (upper arm etc) and after the alcohol dries, hold the patch on firmly for 30 seconds.
I did end up having to then quit the patch, but it isn't nicotine that kills us, it's the tars and carcinogens associated with smoking and tobacco use. Nic patches used as directed never killed anyone.
I'm sure there are a million different opinions on this topic and others will disagree with my willingness to replace smoking with an alternate nicotine delivery system. But the patch works for many hard core, longtime smokers, I've seen it over and over. Good luck to you both!
My HNC is most likely because of my Fanconi Anemia, but I still quit smoking, I just cannot see engaging in something that is clearly a huge risk factor for so many things that could kill you.0
