Hi Mary
I hope your appt. goes well today and that the CT scan on Friday will show the best possible results for you--a small, localized tumor. Your son is scared, that is understandable. I have not been in the position of being a family member of someone with cancer, so I don't know how that feels. I only know it from the patient's perspective. All you can do is keep reassuring him that this is all going to turn out okay--and it will!0 -

Hi Mary, I hope you get all the information you need to proceed forward, and know that this is a curable cancer. Like you said, if your son is going to be negative that isn't helpful, and he should stay away, until he researches and knows that anal cancer is curable, and how curable it is. We will be positive for you, as we are anal cancer survivors and living proof that its curable. I wish you well. Lori0 -
My son and I usually have
My son and I usually have coffee one morning a week at the neighborhood cafe while his family sleeps in and my husband is at the gym. After I told him I have cancer I did not really hear from him for two weeks. I talked to my daughter-in-law and she talked to my son and he was scared just like your son and I guess he thought if he ignored the elephant in the room it would go away. Just a different way of handling things maybe?
I called him and we met and talked and I explained I needed him to be his normal smart alleck self...not as a care giver and certainly NOT to walk around groaning and wringing his hands........and then asked him what he thought about me getting a dirt bike ..... He laughed and said he guessed I would be alright after all, but how about a sports car instead?
I too need only positive people around me. This is scary. For us. For our families. I come here now for a good dose of positive and Mary, some of that has come from you. So, thank you, Lorie0 -

It seems like your doctor is getting right on top of this and you are moving quickly toward the beginning of treatment--I think that is a very good thing! It took me 6 weeks to get from diagnosis to day 1 of treatment and that wait nearly killed me! I know it's all overwhelming right now, but once you begin treatment, your life will have a routine again--perhaps not what any of us would like, but for 5 to 7 weeks, you'll be going to treatment every day. That gave me a reason to get up every day, eat and take a shower! Best wishes to you and please let us know how everything goes next week.0 -

Hello Mary, It sounds like a whirl wind, and I know it feels like one, as I went through the same thing. I was a T2NOMO, and had the pet/ct and began tx same day. Everything gets moving so fast, but like Martha having to wait 6 weeks to start would be very difficult, and I was fortunate not have to wait long once dx. I wish you well and keep us posted. Lori0
