mom decided to stop chemo doctor not very helpful

in Lung Cancer #1
My mother is 82 yrs of age and has had 3 chemo treatments which has left her very weak. She has stage 4 lung cancer and it has spread to liver and adrenal glands. She also has empysemia. She decided to stop treatment because it has been 5 weeks since last treatment and she still is so weak and having stomach pains. The doctor said I am not going to try to talk you into more chemo but beware if you go to the hospital because of bleeding or whatever it is going to be a bad experience for you and your family because of the lung cancer. Not sure what he meant by that and he will not see her again for another 4 months.
I don't know if that is usually the way they handle patients or not. I am not sure if he was saying he was through with her or what. This cancer is so overwhelming.

Any opnions or suggestions would help.

    I will pray for strength and endurance for your mom and your family. I know it is a tough decision she made. And yes Cancer certainly is overwhelming! Hugs Julie

    Hi...I wanted to say that you and your mother are doing the right thing.If your mother feels she is to weak to dochemo, then she just is.I would not second guess this choice.She is 82 yrs old.The body feels what it feels....I would not let any doctor make you feel like you are making a wrong choice...it is your mothers life, not his....Remember not to forget about asking about hospice for your mother. Try to get them involved sooner that later, you may find hospice to be a wonderful thing.Look into it.They are trained to take care of end of life issues.they know how to care for people.they have the medicines to help her rest comfortably,Im not saying the end is near, but best to look into this ahead of time.You are a very caring daugher.She is blessed to have you.

    I would go ahead and ask him what he meant, and ask if there's anything that can be done. It's definitely not the best bedside manner and not very productive if he just left it like that.

    I doubt the bad experience he's predicting would have anything to do with her deciding to drop off chemo.
