I understand your anxiety. Buzz's first and second scans showed "increased metabolic activity" in two spots. If you get a result like that, don't panic. It does not necessarily mean cancer. The Radiation Oncologist told us that there are spots like that on scans of head and neck cancer patients. Hopefully, you get the all clear. Karen0 -
Don't Stress IT
Very few that I can remember have a really bad first PET. If it's not the best, more than likely it'll be residual which is very common on first time scans.
The majority that have had some residual on their first scans have good scans as a little more time passes.
Good Luck and hopefully you'll be the percentage that does have a good first scan.I was one and several others have also.
Best,

Don't sweat the 1st PET scan, especially at 3 months post treatment. There is a decent chance that a 3 month Pet scan may show a hot spot that is not necessarily cancer. It could very well be lingering inflammation from the rads/chemo. As Karen said, this is a fairly common occurrence for head and neck patients.
I had my 1st PET/CT scan at 6 months, which showed a residual hot spot on my tongue. A follow up MRI was clean. My 2nd PET scan at 9 months showed the same hot spot though it was somewhat diminished. Earlier this month I had my 1 year PET and, as they say, the 3rd time is the charm. It was finally a clean PET scan. Yeah that was a relief!
Hopefully your PET scan will be clean as a whistle. Cheers.

I have prepared myself for the residual hot spots. His ENT is an awesome doctor and will not sugar coat anything. By the way, It's hot and dry here in Houston. I also need prayers for some heat relief and rain. : )0 -

3 MONTH SCAN
My first scan was at 4-5 months post treatment. I can relate to the added pressure and stress of waiting not only for the day of the scan, but then have to wait on the read.
You will be fine.
