Made an appointment for a much shorter hair cut. Would rather have little tiny airs fall out than long ones. Not ready for a buzz though.

    My hair started falling out
My hair started falling out around the third week of treatment - not in clumps, but there was a lot of hair in the brush. Then it just stopped. I never lost any more (not from my head anyway).

Hair falling out never did worry me. I figured, like you Sandy, it'll grow back. I bought a wig and some head scarves, just in case, but never did use them. I still have the wig - if anyone wants it, just let me know and I'll send it to you. It's shoulder length, light brown with highlights.

    Hi Sandy--
My hairdresser at the time of my treatment cut my hair quite short and it looked so much better! She also advised me NOT to shave my head because there's always a risk of infection with ingrown hairs--plus I didn't think my melon would look very good shaved! lol! I'm glad I did not do that, as I only lost about half of my hair and managed to get by with a ball cap.

I love my hair which is now shorter than my husband's and his is quite short. I also had a great time with my hair dresser who spent two hours cutting my hair, making sure to cut it with scissors very "unevenly" so it will be hard to tell what is new hair and what is old hair as old goes and new comes in. We both think it's a fun summer "do" and just puts this whole thing of hair off the table. The doctor said today my hair was going to thin a lot or I would lose it completely. I think this is because of my blood tests which were worse than Mondays results. The anemia was worse and my platelets had dropped by almost 40 points from 147 to 109. We may have to postpone chemo. Whatever. It's out of my control, obviously. But overall I felt good today and love my crazy hair cut. My husband has been a little difficult. He is really grieving my hair, I think but that was one reason why I just had to do it. Looking at him look at me while it was falling out would have been harder than just having him look at me today and get used to it - if that ever happens:-/ Anyway, I so appreciated my hair dresser today. It pays to be a loyal customer on days like today. And hair grows back. It's such a small matter but then again, I look in the mirror a lot, lol.

    sounds pretty
I have a tiny head though and getting fitted with a wig will take some doing. I think I am going to be fine - but thanks. I'm sure someone in your community or this one (ours) would love to have what sounds like a stunning wig.

    Hi Sandy!
I bet your new short cut looks really cute! Just remember that hair does grow back and in the big picture, it's not what is most important right now, just a little depressing. I understand!

    Hair loss
    Sandy,
I'm new to this site. It has been almost 5 weeks since I finshed treatment. I have lost a lot of hair. I plan on cutting it this weekend. Thank you for the information on not shaving it off.

    Hair
My hair was falling out a lot, and at times still does. The doctors ran tests and discovered my vitamin B was deficient. They informed me though it could have also been my thyroid. I would suggest having the doctor run tests to be sure all is okay.

    Vitamin B
Yes - everyone pushes vitamin B which I was taking and still take (Vitamin B and 12 and Vitamin D). My thyroid was tested before this and it was fine but I don't know if it is going sideways now. I got a transfusion for the red cell count and am feeling a lot better now.

    Very cute hair
I, too, chose a cropped 'do' since I lost most of my hair. It is growing back with a super curly vengeance. Entertainment for the whole family.

    Boing!
I hope mine comes in curly too. I keep adding up the plus column for anal cancer but the minus column seems more weighted somehow. (lol) Last radiation treatment tomorrow!

Last radiation tomorrow, good for you. I got a certificate and a balloon, and I kept the ballon in my car for over 1 1/2 years. Lori

A long six weeks Sandy - but you're through them. Next week will be rough. But the burns heal quickly. How are your blood counts?

Hi sandy - yeah - congrats
Hi sandy - yeah - congrats on your last radiation. You've been through a lot, give yourself some time now to heal -- just not having to go to radiation each day is a relief...I do like your haircut! My hair did not fall out but rather thinned out a lot - now, one year post treatment, my hair is thick again and really wavy. So, things do turn around again. Hang in there. Marilyne

    Congrat's Sandy
You did it!!!!!!! The last day of radiation. What a wonderful feeling eh? And keep moving forward. I was exhausted after rad. but exercise helped get my stregnth back. I'm not talking a work out...only a walk to the end of the block and back. And for my hair, they said your hair will not fall out. Well mine sure did thin out. So like you I cut it short and SASSY! By the way yours looks really cute on you..you look like a sassy girl also. And I agree with so many others, I have always had poker straight hair. You should see my curls, only in the back. And by the way my hair is much thicker now. It will happen. Just wait.
