Doctors
I am sorry about your sister's diagnosis. I am from NY and currently getting treatments at Memorial Sloan Kettering. This was the best place for me - living in NY - they are very knowledgeable - plus this is what they do. So far I am very happy with them. Originally, I had gotten my first opinion at Mount Sinai - also a good hospital, but Sloan is best. Does your sister live in NJ or NY? I have names of Doctors at Sloan if your sister decides to get treated there. To start, this is my surgeon: http://www.mskcc.org/prg/prg/bios/1180.cfm. Highly recommended!
If you want, you can have your sister call me. I had the same diagnosis.0 -
Finding a 2nd Opinion oncologist
Hi Julie,
If your sister has a primary care physician, have her ask that doctor for a recommendation. She can even ask her oncologist to recommend a doctor for a 2nd opinion. Most doctors have no problem with this and if they do I think it certainly says something about them. Also an important issue is whether the recommended doctor is part of your insurance plan. That is usually found easily online or you can call the Customer Service number listed on the insurance card. When she has her 2nd opinion appt. bring along all her diagnostic records such as biopsy reports, MRIs, PET/CT scans, bloodwork results, etc. It is good that she lives in a major metropolitan area as that will give her more choices. Good luck to both of you.
