Hi Linda
Before treatment I use to love milk now after treatment I can’t stand the taste of milk, other then that I had no problems with it before. Not sure why the taste problem with it now maybe the cows are eating a different type of grass. lol
Wishing you the best

Thanks for the reply, I'm reading Sweets links right now about what is healthy to have , but like everything else in this journey it's different for all.

We might not have made it
without dairy - it was a main source of protein for Doug for months. However, much of that was in the form of whey isolates (soy formulations didn't taste very good to him) which have no lactose. I settled on one that has no additives - we both react to aspartame and stevia, and Doug really didn't go for any of the flavored products - the one we like has a slight natural vanilla flavor. You can add it to soy or rice milk to boost the protein, or even mix it with juice (I was using it as a recovery drink after cardio for a while).
He never seemed to have any classic dairy issues - of course, we attributed most stomach disturbances to his having not eaten for so long and taking so many pills. He's certainly fine now with dairy - we would make Wisconsin proud.0 -
Milk
I like HONDO loved milk before treatment and Ice Cream...
It took several months for about 90% of the taste of milk to return. Ice Cream is still something that I struggle with on occasion. A lot is because sweet was messed up for along time for me. I think that plus the coldness tends to mute the flavor.
I can eat a few bites, but usually lose the flavor fairly fast.

Me and my wife can drink down 2 full gallons of milk with in week or so. My wife she dont drink any white milk straight except chocolate milk because she used to live on a diary farm but I still today I dont understand she can drink chocolate milk but not regular white milk for.0 -

Silk chocolate soy milk
Silk chocolate soy milk wouldn't be dairy though. The pudding does have milk in it though, I guess. Could be all the chocolate, too.
I think it will probably be one of those things where it works for one person but may not work for another.0 -

What about goats milk, heard it was easier to swallow and lactose free?
My husband after BOT and 39 rads and some chemo can drink milk still.0 -

Oh no John, on the Island I grew up on all we had was raw milk; it never had a chance to get cold. All they did back then was to boil it up on the stove and gave it to us. Oh yes that might be because we did not have refrigerators and we did not have refrigerators because we did not have electricity to run them.
I miss the old days when things were simple

My granddaughter grew up on Goat milk because she had a problem with cow. The Goat milk did not smell too good to me but she sure liked it a lot. I did hear that it is a lot better for the human body to handle then cow milk, but all the same I think I am going to do with Sweet is doing and stick with Soymilk.

Jerkface, my ex husband of 15 years, was a dairy farmer. I loved that milk. Every once in a while I would have him bring me in some fresh milk from the tank to make yummy creamy hot chocolate, or pudding, or even fresh cheese.
I don't think I could ever do goat milk. It smells too much like goats. Especially during treatment. No way. But that's just me. It's a good idea to try if you like goat milk.
Tonight, I had goat cheese in a baked egg dish and I was good, but I have to ignore that after smell and taste of goat. I am happy I put in the caramelized onion, bacon and artichokes, other wise, not sure I would have enjoyed it as much.
Silk also makes great almond milk. They have chocolate, original, vanilla, and unsweetened. Silk also has a nice coconut milk.0 -

Actually, I don't like soy milk. I'm not a big fan of soy in general. On the rare times I consume soy, I check to see it's non GMO. I am not crazy about the pseudo estrogens in soy.
I drink 8-16 ounces of almond milk a day, and about 16-24 ounces a day in regular milk. Sometimes I get the coconut milk, for a change of pace.0 -

Yes I too like the Almond milks as well and do prefer it over the soy, just a richer and better taste I guess.
John, try the Silk Almond Vanilla it’s my favorites one

Hondo,
Raw milk was Jim' favorite too. He also grew up without eletricity and running water. Outhouses anyone? LOL Anyway he says nothing better than raaw unprocessed milk. I myself am lactose intolerant and have not liked milk anyway since they did away with glass bottles.
Here's to the good ole days, at least as far as unprocessed food goes. I am grateful for the advances in medicine however.

I too drink the almond milk. I used to drink and eat a lot of soy (We were vegetarians then and I developed lactose intolerance) until I was diagnosed with precancerous tumor of the breast and the oncologist said no soy while on Tamoxifen. I have since stopped the Tamoxifen but not gone back to soy because breat tumor was hormone driven and I am afraid to take any hormones. I love the chocolate almond milk and use the unsweetened like cows milk. Even in baking. Neither soy or almond work for pudding for some reason so on Thanksgiving I make the annual chocolate pies with cows milk and suffer the stomach cramps.
Life is full of tradeoffs.LOL

Dairy
In retrospect - I didn't eat any dairy at all during treatment. After the flavor went away, I gave up trying. I also note that the things I did eat during rads and chemo have absolutely no appeal to me now. I still avert my gaze when I walk past the boost/ensure display in the supermarket. (Post-traumatic stress syndrome much?)
A year plus out from treatment, and dairy is a major component of my diet. Without my milk, yogurt, and cheeses, I would probably starve. And sour cream and whipped cream taste great again.
