Had a birfday to celebrate and haven't been around the last few days. I love bdays!!!
The dates just happened over time. Avoiding cold and hot weather was a part of it as was kids on spring breaks and summer vacations. Fall seemed the best time and then once a city is determined it comes down to what weekends nothing major is happening so we can get the best hotel rates. For instance, in Chi-town we only had 2 choices in the fall given all the neat stuff going on in the city. I know folks think the $200/night rate is high but is you look at the other weekends at the same hotel you will see the rates are $350-$400/night.
Keep the questions coming and I promise I will be there this year and really look forward to a hug.

so one wouldnt want to have it in a place that something else was going on. I was thinking of the Albuquerque. NM, balloon fiesta in October, but it would be extremely hard to get the rooms, so that wouldnt be a good idea.
Yes the 200 a night was keeping me from going and I am sure for others, but I do understand. So lucky I got a roomie, and I cant wait to meet you and give you a big Beth Hug.
WHen are you getting there? My flight comes in early, so will have to hang out probably before I can get into the room. My roomie comes in late in the evening if I remember correctly.
HUGS

I will host in San Diego next year if it's picked. What exactly does hosting mean? Finding affordable hotels, etc.?0 -

Hi Krista,
I think you understand that we would have a gazillion volunteers to host in their hometowns if we opened it up like that. We don't have many rules about the Paloozas but one is that the host/hostess has to be there and it is really helpful if they have been to 1 or 2 before to understand the expectations.
I must say that while our Palooza in California was a blast, we were really disappointed that no one west of Dallas attended, the same thing happened in Vegas! We've tried to spread them out across the country but given we are dealing with 4 time zones (counting our eastern Canadian semis) we've learned to listen to those that attend them.
That all said, who knows where we will be next year and who the host/hostess will be. I know a few whose votes can be bought!!!! Heh heh.0 -
Now, now...don't slam us west-coasters...*smile*scouty said:Have to be there

You always have these right around the time I'm coming back from my 'other' home (I'm there 6 months of the year...so just as much as in California). THIS year is DOUBLY bad because my mom died in April, I left in July for Holland, and so I have the rest of the estate to handle when I get back....
Sigh, if my family would cooperate, and stop getting sick (Hans) and dying (mom), it would be a lot better....
Maybe one day this year in Chicago, but otherwise I'll attempt the next one...

Phoenix in the summer, noscouty said:Gail
Be sure and check flights into Midway and Ohare! The hotel is pretty close to both airports!
The difference in fares was $125 for me.
Phoenix in the summer, no one wants to be there.......so rates are cheaper. However, we need the vitamin D3!! The Hyatt at Gainey Ranch!! Scottsdale!0
