Goooooooood Raquel!Nana b said:Yes, sir!
I walk all day at work, up and down stairs, my bell is flatter, the swelling is down. My legs down rub against each other. My flabby arms are getting firmer. My pants are getting loose. I'm smiling more.
What more can I say....

Treadmill
I haven't been walking much in July. Had four deaths - geez thought those came in three, but been really down so haven't done any physical activity. I'll get back on this web post more often this month - promise. Did walk on treadmill today but I'll give you results tomorrow. Thanks for keeping this post going.

i am celebrating hitting a milestone.
about 14 months ago is was 135kg.
anyway did the treadmill for 40min thats my 8 mets for the day.
then joined in with 40 lovelly girls and a gay gentleman in a dance exercise class.
i was so hopeless , it was funny, most of the girls were smiling.
then we stayed and also did a barbell exercise class. which was a killer.
i have lost so much upper body strength.
being very cautious about my abdominal area, got to see exercise physio asap to make sure i am not over doing it. it felt so good to dance so bad.
anyone else exercise today ??? i hope so.. even if you don't post it hear.
thanks kathleen. i hope the exercise god is looking after us.
hugs,
pete

Kathleen !
did a really hard 20 min on the treadmill
then an hours yoga class, it was awesome.
my hips and flexibility and core strength are shot.
got to start somewhere but i did not realise how chemo knocks you around until i tried
stretching. the static poses are excruitiating in a good way.
anyone else exercising today ?
remember to exercise within your limits, check with your doctor or physio. to that end i am having a physio work on a core building program for a couple of months.
today i also found a personal trainer who massages and is into juicing.
what a great day. if your not well enough to exercise then i hope you are soon. until then rest and recover your health. if you are well enough to exercise but don't then enjoy the laziness and i hope the health and strength you have lost this day will not be missed in the future. fitness first tv second.

So far this week I have walked 4-5km every day with my 3lb weights for at least half of each session. Also did an hour of yoga - and will do another session to get the day going tomorrow. Add to that several hours of gardening and several hours of serious housecleaning. Only one swim - little chilly this week! And then a day in the city with lots of walking around and shopping - gotta exercise the credit card once in a while.
Everyday, just breathe and move! (Heard that from the guy doing my CT scan last week and really liked it!)0 -

hey yoga,
it gets a bit lonely here sometimes. I just hope we got alot of closet exercisers on the board.
tonight i visited my local doctor to get a physio care plan for 5 free visits. my new physio actually is the same one my doctor uses. how lucky and my doctor highly recommends him. Seeing him monday morning 9am, cannot wait to get some solid direction on rebuilding my abdominals after they have been slided, diced and fried.
we are so fortunate in australia, here my visit to the local doctor costs me $8 out of pocket, for that i get a gp visit, he gave me an order for a fasting blood test to test cholesterol and liver function. and the free physio.
whats your first name ? your a great example to have in this post.
for me besides the yoga class, at the end they do an optional meditation which was the deepest I've experienced in a long long time. the yoga teacher just laughs at me trying to get into these impossible positions. all the other lovelly ladies are amazing. so the teacher tells them the advanced and for me she says well just sit on the floor cross legged. which honestly is really painful and difficult. i breathed and made it through the class just.
are you into yoga by any chance ? how soon after surgery is it for you.

our dogs are our best friends. getting healthy before surgery i did, it helped me, my cancer op was successful. i lost 20 kg between june2010 and 7oct2010. my surgeon did not did through heaps of fat. fat is a risk factor in surgeries. i lost another 12kg in hospital in the 14 days without food, not fun. the weight loss was muacle and fat.
great tohave you post, walk your beautiful dogs and be healthy.
come onboard and help me motivate others, they need it. oh so do some good and boost our chances personally. thats a win win win.

Pete, That's great your surgery was a success. I want to reiterate that this thread has me thinking more about getting stronger (even though I'm on chemoradiotherapy) I do have some time in between treatment and surgery. I need more muscle strength, yet really can't afford to lose much weight if any. Any suggestions for keeping weight on during the surgical process?
Back to topic at hand, I am onboard for trying to keep moving. I know that it may be hard at times but it is a priority.
Thanks,
Laura0 -
the time between radi/chemo and the op is like goldlauragb said:To successful surgery

use it wisely, the is huge, hope for the best prepare for the worst.
that little extra strength and health may save your life, help you recover faster.
oh gee, then no post delays due to complications and start post op chemo weeks to the day after surgery.
what i did not want was delays after op to the 6 months folfox.
delay here means lost efficacy of folfox until i think a 3 month delay means no extra benefit of adjuvant chemo.
but check with onc.
no advice re diet except be healthy, do your research. i saw a good cancer naturopath, i read anticancer, the liver bible and many books.
i made liver health my overriding goal, as it gets rid of the chemo by products.
