So how likely is r-cvp to work the first time around? Do I really need to do Rituxim afterward?
I'm Kim and new to this site. Basic info. about me. I am 40 and was diagnosed with stage 4 indolent non-hodgkins b-cell folicular lymphoma. It was found in my Lung, a verdebra in my spine, a spot on my back, and a little in my arm (as far as the larger amounts). I had radiation for the one on my spine before chemo and the spot on my back, they cut out as much as possible the 2nd biopsy (19 stitches worth). I've had 3 r-cvp treatments and have 3 more til I'm done. My husband and I were about to try for our third child when this news arrived (which i still can't keep my mind off). I've heard that the possibilities are pretty slim after chemo with my age for having a child. Anyway, our plan so far is for me to do Rituxim for 2yrs. So how likely is r-cvp to work the first time around? Do I really need to do Rituxim afterward?

Worked for me
Hi, and welcome,
I did 6 rounds of CVP-R and it shrunk all of my tumors down to a stable level. I had them in my groin, stomach and neck. I am doing the 2 year Rituxan plan(infusion every other month) and so far have finished 3 treatments...the next one is due on Aug 22nd. So far so good and I am not scheduled to have a follow up CT until April 2012. All I can do is continue the Rituxan and wait and watch for anything new to crop up. I would do what your doctor suggests and hope for the best...the treatment he has ordered for you, definetely worked for me...(so far). Good luck, and please keep us posted on how you progress. Much love and best wishes...Sue

Thanks for the quick response. So after your r-cvp they did a CT to check it out? Also, the doctor told me he was thinking of every 3 months for two years. I can't remember if I put that in my email or not (chemo brain?). Will April 2012 be a 1 year check up? If so, if the cancer is still gone, did your doctor say you would continue the next year? Good luck to your too and I will keep in touch.0 -
Rituxan
Beestrong,
I went thru 6 rounds of r-cvp and went into remission.I was also a stage 4 with no symtoms. DID YOU HAVE ANY SYMTOMS(NIGHT SWEATS OR FEVER?.I am on the Rituxan treatment plan and had 1 so far. I am due another in Sept. I am on the 6 month schedule. I believe they have had a lot of success with the R as a maintenance so far. They are coming up with new treatments all the time. I think the R will really help in the long run,but thats my opinion. It is an antibody, not a chemo. John(FNHL-1-4A-5/10)0 -

Hey John,
I was just writing Sue back when you wrote. Good timing :-) As far as symptoms go, the primary reason I ended up going to the doctor was b/c my husband noticed I was tired all the time, losing weight without trying, and my muscle tone was shrinking. Those things and the spot on my back for about 6 months. The spot on my back was a little red with little spots in it and a small mass the size of a half dollar. Luckily, when I went to the dermotoligist (msp) he said "It looks like a bruise, but I'll take a biopsy if you'd like". That's how we found out it was Lymphoma. Yes, I did have some night sweats and was wondering if I was going into early menepause (can't spell today) or something. So your 6 month Rituxian cycle...Is that for two years? Thanks for your response John. I'll keep in touch. Good luck to you.0 -
Yes...
Hi Kim,
Yes..the CT scan to be done in April 2012 will be one year from my last scan , which was also done in April this year. As far as I know I am scheduled to complete a full 2 years of Rituxan and if everything looks good on the scan the first year and then again at the end of the 2nd year, I will then go on a "watch and wait" basis until a recurrance happens. There's no way to know when something new will pop up, so we just watch carefully from month to month. I get regular blood draws with each bi-monthly R infusions and so far my counts are staying stable. Time will tell. Hope I've answered your questions. Much love...Sue

Hey Sue,
Thanks for the feedback. I guess that will be similar to what I will do. Even though, lets hope/pray that the Rituxan works for us all. I hate to even think about a recurrence happening. Thanks Kim0
