3 month check up
today was my 3 months check up with oncologist.
pet scan is done, ca125- at 6 - which is great.
after finishing 6 rounds of carpo/taxol back in may - i did not go into remission, good news at that time was that- no new grows and existing got smaller, this time pet scan showed the same spot - in my left pelvic area. i have no symptoms and feeling pretty good, except for bone pain, but it can take awhile to go away. i am so happy to be out of chemo. my doctor thinks that it is important to have chemo breaks for body to get back to normal, so for now she is not recommending to start chemo. she said -as i am not symptomatic and it is not an agressive cancer - break will do more good for me. next ca125 in september and ct scan in october. i am also brca positive and doctor told me there is new drug that soon to be available that works best for brca patients. of course - i forgot the name of it. have to say - i am happy to be out of chemo, but same time i am worry that i have beast and not doing anything , even it is at bay now. What do you ladies think about it?
And - i also have a question - at times my breasts feel very full, like it was in old times before my period. Did any of you experience something like that? Doctor ordered to have blood test for estrogen to be done. she thinks it can be hormonal. i just recently had my mammogram and it is clean.
thank you in advance
hugs
Victoria

I am sure if your doctor
I am sure if your doctor said it was ok to take a break and that it would do you some good then just rest durning this time. Try not to worry your doctor would not say it was ok unless they really thought it was.

So you are concerned about something that showed up on the PET scan even though your CA-125 is really great? Do you have any idea which measure carries more weight?
Having a low CA-125 sounds pretty good to me. Enjoy your break.

If your doctor thought you
If your doctor thought you should remain on chemo, I'm sure she would have told you. Then the decision would be up to you. A break from chemo might be good to give your body a chance to get "normal" again. I'm sure she'll keep an eye on your scans to see if it's getting larger.
Hang in there.0 -

hi,
i am afraid ca125 not very good marker for me, before surgery it was only 400 and i was looking like 9 mo pregnant with triplets, they took 14 liters of acites out.
of course i am happy it came down to 7 and i am happy i am not symptomatic, but i had that spot ( 2.5 cm) after surgery and chemo did not kill it, it is still there. Thank God - did not get bigger and Thank God - no new growth - so it is at Bay now.
My concern - if it is not to risky just watch it and do not have chemo now.
I like my doctor and trust her and of course - chemo not something i am craving... but you know - some moments i am just scared that we just do not trying to kill it, so it will be gone....
sorry for mumbling.i guess i just need to get used to this state and accept is as normal
thanks for reply

Forteen liters. That sounds awful. Do you have the option of having the "spot" surgically removed?0 -

Hang in there.
Sometimes a "spot" is a calcified tumor. It sounds like you could benefit from a PET/CT scan.0
