Pericardial effusion
Jim was diagnosed with Pericardial effusion which is excess fluid in the heart sac. After researching it I see radiation, chemotherapy, and cancer can cause it. His cardiologist is monitoring him and having echocardiography monthly to see if it grows. He said he isn't thinking it is cancer, but has to make sure. The thought by both the surgeon and cardiologist is damage from radiation due to the location of the radiation on the heart. I pray this is what it is.
Has anyone else dealt with this?
Thanks,
Linda

Linda, I am so sorry to hear that! I hope Jim is going to go over this bump and get well. You are both in out thoughts.

Hi Linda,
I had radiation, chemo and surgery in 2009 and now I have a small to medium pericardial effusion. It showed up on my first echo after all the above stuff. It sounds like Jim's has to be watched more closely than mine, I go every 6 months for an echo to check on it. But it is good the dr is being careful and watching it. I had atrial fib after my first chemo and never had that before too. Sometimes we forget the beating our bodies take with all the treatment but it sure is worth it to be around. Will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers and hope it clears or at least does not get worse. take care,

Thanks Donna. It helps knowing Jim isn't the only one that has this and that you are doing so well. The body is assaulted and who knows what will come of it. Life is what we all want.
