My appointment today.
He said that if I didn't feel better in 2-4 weeks, that he wanted me to call and see one of the ear guys. That I may end up needing tubes. I asked him if he was going to note that, because I didn't want a fight when I had to call back to schedule. (Ok, 'if' I have to call back.) He decided then that the better thing to do was to set me up with an appointment in 4 weeks, then if I was better I could cancel. I told him that was an excellent idea, I liked that proactive approach, rather than reactive.
I thanked him for seeing me despite the fact about the no ear thing, and told him, he knows I don't call and bug docs unless something is really wrong, and given my history, I did not want to wait 4 months to be seen. He told me he totally understood. So, out to the checkout I went. When I got there, the woman at the desk told me that she sees that he wants me to have an appointment in four weeks. She said as a new patient, the earliest is November 14th. Here we go again. So she is supposed to ask one of the doctors if she can schedule me sooner. He wasn't there, he was in surgery, so she said she would call me tomorrow or Wednesday.
So that is where I am at. I feel better that my doctor scoped me and didn't see anything that looked bad. That is a bit of a relief, but he cannot say why it's not draining and why my ears are so clogged. So, I guess I will be deaf and cranky, and miserable for a while longer. I will be so happy when I can finally hear, and I feel better.
Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers. I appreciate it.

How frustrating! I cannot
How frustrating! I cannot believe he wants you to wait another 2-4 weeks! I would probably went back and told the other doctor that the receptionist refused to set the appointmwnt, or I would go to another ENT that did ears and would see me soon. Just me I can get pushy.
I just pray your discomfort goes away and soon.

It seems all these ear specialists are booked for months out. It's craziness. I checked williamsport and lewisburg last week, before I heard from Geisinger.0 -

ENTs that do ears must be a rare breed in your neck of the woods. LOL Good luck and stay on that receptionist.

it's tough to get the "leave it alone for 4 weeks and then see" when you've already been suffering so long. Indeed, since it is "just" fluid, other than having your eardrums rupture (sounds like the pressure is going down) you don't have to worry about damage (it's bad to leave it that long in kids, as they are still learning speech, but that's not an issue with you).
My last suggestion is an ultrasonic humidifier - I thought you mentioned having one, but just in case you don't, I'd recommend it at least at night. The idea is to try to get some moisture into the tubes from the inside, to thin out fluid and make it easier to drain (if everything's so swollen that there's no access, this won't help, of course.)
Again, at least everything is "normal" inside - yay!0 -
Oh good grief
Glad to read that there's nothing obviously horrible going on but I always hate hearing about the red tape and bureaucracy crap. I'm really surprised that I didn't read about a shooting spree and see a mug shot for your new avatar. Way to keep your cool.

I don't know about the "ultrasonic" thing. I think mine just said 'cool air humidifier'.
I have been afraid of my eardrums rupturing. A couple times when I have sneezed, it hurt and got wonky. I was nervous for a second.0 -

If I didn't get to see anyone today, and my doc didn't scope me, and just said, sorry no can do, you would have read about a woman who went on a rampage at Geisinger Danville in PA. For. Sure.0 -

I just got a voicemail.
She got an appointment for September 2, 9:30 for me, so at least that worked out. Now after all that, I am hoping I won't need it.0 -

I got up to get a drink yesterday, and he crawled onto my neck pillow, and stuck himself right on it properly. It was funny.0 -

They make the mist by vibrations rather than by heating - I think "ultrasonic" was a cool word for a while.
You'll know if they rupture - it will hurt like heck for a second and then suddenly feel a lot better, because the pressure is relieved. Happened to me a few times as a kid and they healed up without treatment - when it happened to my daughter 10 years ago, however, the pediatric nurse had to talk me off the ceiling (I called, asking if I should take her to the ER. . . ). Antibiotic drops for 2 weeks and it healed without a hitch (the doctor nicely let me look before and after - ugh for before and wow for after).
We both still get fluid, but are lucky in that we have not had cancer and don't have swelling (and can move our jaws more) - you have our sympathy. It would be nice if it cleared up soon. . .0 -

I put on the humidifier yesterday, figured it couldnt hurt. I will leave it on for a few days.
It sure would be nice if it cleared up.0 -

My wife got a cleaning lady one time that said she did not do windows so I guess ENT’s don’t have to do ears anymore, what a joke. I love the part that they did a hearing test while your ears are full of liquid, I guess if you were a fish you would have passed with no problems….
Just makes me wonders sometimes about these doctors, are they for real…..
