hope for those who have been diagnosed with colon cancer stage 4 with poor prognosis!!!!
its been quite some time since i have logged in but felt the need to write this today as im sure this will give hope to some that have been given a poor prognosis. to cut a long story short, my dad was diagnosed with colon cancer stage 4 on 21st december 2010. He was also told that he had mets in the liver (described as resembling a honeycomb! so imagine the severity) he also had meets in both lungs and spine. the lymph system was also badly affected. the doctor didd not advice him to take any treatment and advised him to go home and get his papers in order and enjoy the 4 to 6 months he probably had left. we all, as a family refused to give up so easily band against his doctors advice went to spain for a second opinion where they started him on chemo (Xeloda). well, 7 months down the road he has how finished chemo and im happy to say that we have just received his cat scan results. they cant see anything in the colon. the lungs are clear and the liver which had been described as a honeycomb for the amount of mets has only now 2 small nodes. all the rest is unremarkable. he is feeling fine and building up from the effects of the chemo...tiredness weight loss etc. just thought id share that with all of you especially those who think all is lost. never give up !!!!!

thank you
so much for this. My aunt was told she has stage 4 this past February and that the cancer was throughout her liver so bad that nothing could be done for her liver at all. She also was told 6 months to live but they also recommended chemo and xeloda for possibly prolonging her life. Her 6 months will be up in August (next month) and I think maybe she is starting to give up, only because the Dr.s said she had til August. She doesn't have a computer, but I am going to copy your post and show her and I hope that will give her more hope.
Thank you so very much. Prayers for your father and your family.

i am a very skeptical person but my dad and mum and family as a whole are very spiritual and firm believers. they have never lost faith or hope. makes you wonder huh! anyway, i guess its a combination of everything. chemo, faith, positive attitude etc. my dad always told me, if you have a toothache, by all means pray, but pray on your way to the dentist! lol.....all the best fot you auntie.
ps: (advice for ur auntie) when my dad was told to go home and practically wait for death, he was sad depressed and looked sicker. when we took him to pamplona (spain) for a second opinion and was told that he should not give yup that easily and they recommended treatmnet, jusst those words automatically helped. he looked better and his attitude changed.0 -

Great to Hear This
I'm happy to hear that your Dad is doing well. Sometimes we have to be our own advocates and push for either other opinions or other options. That's great that things are working in your Dad's favor. There are times when the chemo is just what the patient needs even though it can be hell on the body.
All the best

Hi I am new here but was diagnosised with stage 4 met. oct 2004 just went into the hospital for an xray and didnt come out for 3.5 months. Lost home furniture animals everything from 56 years of life becasue no one there to take care and sold the home as is from the hospital bed. After 3 surgeries super infections and removal of all that was removalble I went to some ladies house who was suposed to look after me but not much and with some bag on my side I didnt even know how to work or have enough of for the 8 to 10 changes I needed a day cause of the diareah. A nightmare that lasted 10 months praying for death but I got better much to all surprosed and all though the colon cnacer has come back once in my lung with chemo and now in my lung again they say it is too slow growing for chemo that it would kill more normal cells than cancer cells. Even did my DNR final paper work and spent 7 months on Hospice then died but they ignored my wishes and brought me back chemically HWEVER itd go because they had me on so many drugs I was always deepressed and never out of pin. After 20 days in the hopital I have 5 pills and the 2 pain meds WORK. Drs think I might live several years considering how slow the cancer is growing and where it picks to grow Im in good health with no energy and little to do but God must have a reason cause Im still here.
Best to all
