So, I'm pretty sure from discussions I've read, I'm not the only one with dental issues, unaffordable dental issues. I won't be able to have dental work for about 3 months as I've just gotten off of Avastin.
But.... apparently my poor husband will be my experiment. He went to the dentist and they informed him to put his teeth in working order it would be at a cost of over $7,000.00 dollars (5 crowns)today he got his first crown work started and now it appears he needs a root canal (here in California another 1,800.00 added to the bill)so, we are doing the Mexico thing for the four remaining crowns, my Aunt and Uncle both go to Mexico for their dental work and are happy with it. We will be in Mexico on Monday to the dentist, their quote for 4 crowns is $1,200.00. So my hubby will be the "experiment" on how they do, according to Aunt and Uncle they do excellent work, so we'll be trying it. If all goes well, I'll be the next one. I'll let you know how it turns out. They'll do the measurements for the crowns and prepare everything on Monday and then we return in 3 weeks to get the crowns installed. Including gas, hotel and cost of dental work we will come out way ahead. Now mind you, because it's Mexico, I'm automatically worried, but my Auntie has always been there for me, and they have had their teeth work done there for the past 5 years, so I'm going to put my trust in them.
Wish us the best.
UPDATE:
Mark had his first visit today to the dentist, they did one root canal, teeth cleaning, 2 crowns, two posts for a grand total of $1,080, (our price from our Santa Cruz, CA Dentist $5,200.00). He needs one more root canal, two more crowns, so figure another $1,080.00, and (Santa Cruz, CA price another 5,200.00) which means final Mexico cost 2,160.00 and our final U.S. cost would have been 10,400.00, a savings of $8,240.00, count in the cost of gas to get here and back 320.00, cost of hotel $0.00 (courtesy of staying in my Aunt's RV at her house) meals, $200.00 (again courtesy of my Aunt's fine cooking it's just costing us meal money to take them out for a couple of good meals) we still came out over $7,000.00 ahead (plus we were coming down here to pick up my motorcycle originally anyway). He loved the dentists (sent to the tooth cleaning dentist not dental assistant, sent to root canal specialist, sent to crown removal and post installation dentist all in same day in same building, waiting to get crowns on Tuesday)clean office, professional and he arrived back from the border in great spirits. Guess where I'm getting my teeth done?

I have also heard good things....
and the medical care (don't laugh) in India is reportedly exceptional!!! And firmly within budget....
Keep us posted! I live in So Cal, and so for me, also, Mexico is a hop, skip, jump....just paid $1,050 for a crown here in the States...

They are usually american
They are usually american dentists whom still live in the USA just practice in Mexico. They can do the same good work but no worries about being sued or collecting from insurance. If you shop around you can find a local dentist whom will do dental work reasonable here also. I live NW of LA and a root canal cost under $300 cash.
My parents own a vacation spot in Texas and they go to Mexico once a week during tourist season to help their clients get meds, dental, etc...
Best Always, mike0 -
