Completed treatment!!

Hi everyone! Just wanted to let everyone know I FINALLY finished chemo/rads on Wednesday! I managed all 3 rounds of cisplatin (last 2 at a reduced dose) and 35 rads. Had a couple delays due to chemo related side effects, a few shots of nupagen, a unit of blood, a bout of pneumonia, a couple hospital stays, and one ugly invasion of thrush... but I have to say that I feel pretty good (or at least not as bad as I thought I would at this point!). I had some chicken soup today and could actually sort of taste it! The pain is manageable throughout the day with a few advil but I have taken a dilaudid a few times at night to help me sleep. My rad onc tells me that I'm very lucky in that my skin tolerated radiation very well. No burns or pain....it just looks like my neck went to the bahamas and left the rest of me behind... hehe. I'm hopeful that as the days go by, things will start to settle into my new "normal". I'm just really chomping at the bit to start eating some decent food again!! Patience isn't my strongest trait..

I have been reading through everyone's post throughout and wish that I would have more time to comment on them, but being a single mom with three little munchkins didn't allow much time (or energy) throughout treatment for extra stuff. One day it took me 3 hours to fold a load of laundry...at least an hour and a half of that was just mustering up the energy to actually start folding. LOL

My prayers go out for everyone and their caregivers daily.

    Awesome...
Man if you can actually taste something this soon out that is totally awesome....

My wife makes great chicken noodle soup....for close to a year and a half, it just tasted like chicken fat in water....

Finally after two years it started tasting pretty good again.

    Best,
    John

    Let the fireworks fly
I'm impressed Jamie-Ann. My hat is off to you. I had a hard enough time doing this without young kids and my wife holding my hand the entire time. You did great!!! I've got to go start laundry now, thanks for the reminder.

    Don't get crazy, Jamie.
Just because you're through with treatment doesn't mean your shrimp ain't still boiling. I'm probably telling you something that you already know........but, I'll tell you anyway. Continue to focus on getting well. Start getting as much excersise time as you can tolerate, and rest whenever you feel that you need it. This is a critical time period for you to work on your healing, both mentally and physically........so take it one day at a time.

    Way To Go
Glad you've tolerated treatment so well so far - hope it keeps up for you. Very nice that you can enjoy chicken soup - it makes such a difference to be able to eat AND taste something.
