First Mammogram after chemo

Yes, Molly, I too have very dense breast tissue
The reason my cancer was never caught on mammo. I would never trust just a mammo again for me. I will be having yearly MRIs and ultrasounds as well as mammo. My mammo report actually says because of the dense breast tissue and my new history, it would be prudent to supplement mammos with MRIs yearly. I don't think the insurance will have a problem with it. And, if they do, I'll fight like a girl to get it done.
Good luck to you. And, never be sorry to vent. You're entitled!

discount
Mollyz,
First, I don't believe there is a discount for unilateral! Sorry, I asked the same thing when I had my one tube tied. As for the tech, she was probably only looking at your previous films. The clerk pulls priors but only pulls the most recent full set. Once she read your questionnaire she would have realized you have only one.
As for having or not having a mammo, there are things a mammo will see that an MRI will not. With dense breasts it is also a good idea to have an MRI. If your doctor orders it the insurance should cover it. As far as ultra sound, a lot radiology departments prefer not to do "screening" ultrasounds so you may not get that.
Definatly push for the MRI though, it is much better for dense breasts especially since you have a history of BC.

Great news that your breast center will be getting a MRI machine. I really believe in all of us having one yearly. With a mammo, ultrasound and a yearly MRI, we've certainly covered all of our bases.
Good luck MollyZ!0 -

Just one bit of advice MollyZ. Be sure and contact your insurance company to verify that they will cover a MRI. Many will refuse it as it is a very expensive test. Good luck!
