Just because I can!

So I thought I would share with you ladies something fun that I did for myself today, I bought myself an ice cream cake from Carvel and when they asked me what I wanted to write on it I told them to put, "Just because I can" on it, in teal. lol! I was thinking to myself why should I wait around for a holiday or birthday. I like ice cream cake and why not make it fun. This is something I never would have thought about doing before I had cancer and I don't know why. It's like I have become even more free spirited then I already was since my diagnosis. Granted it's not like sky diving or anything, but the little things that count more and I try to see things in a more positive way even though I am sick. Has anyone else done something they normally wouldn't have done since being diagnosed?

I didn't do a lot of special things while I was in treatment because I felt so crappy, and was on pain meds, so I couldn't drive myself anywhere. But I have to admit I have become quite decadant since finishing treatment. I have taken tons of workshops on topics ranging from various healing modalities to spritual evolution. I have had many alternative healing sessions of various methods. I have taken two trips with a friend to Sedona. And I got a puppy. I sure learned the value in the saying, don't put off until tomorrow what you can do today.

    Funny you should ask.
I get my hair cut once a month and usually stop by Macy's before I come home. I never buy a lot and always shop for sale items. Today I saw a purse I really liked. I looked at the price tag and thought no way! I put my glasses on and the price was actually $20. more than I thought. I walked away. I continued browsing but kept looking back at that purse. Finally I thought, da*n it, why shouldn't I buy that purse if I really want it. I am not independently wealthy but I can afford it. I bought it and I admit I still feel a little reckless but let's face it when I go, someone else (my son) won't hesitate to spend the money. As Tethys41 mentioned, I will feel a little decadent when I use that purse. I'm looking forward to it.

treat yourself once in a while...you deserve it. I bet that cake tasted mighty good!! Sometimes I like to splurge and go to Kohls and I spend a lot of money if I am not careful but it is so fun.....val

    Let them eat cake
YUP... love your attitude. Every one of my non-chemoland days is a major holiday for me. I must look like the village idiot grocery shopping with a huge smile on my face. I celebrate the sheer independence of driving there and buy way too much stuff, just for the joy of it. I also tell family and friends, who are complaining to me about work and other more minor issues, to stop wishing their lives away and try to live in the moment.

Yep i've done a few 'mad' things since my diagnosis -
I bought a Mulberry handbag which cost nearly £700 - my husband was NOT amused!
Then i went to meet a friend for lunch at a local aerodrome a couple of weeks ago. She was a bit late so i wondered around and then wondered in to the flying school and went up to the desk and said i was wondering how much a flying lesson would be...... So i took a flying lesson for an hour the other week. It was FAB (my husband didn't speak to me for a whole day!!!) i flew a 4 seater Piper, took off, did some manoeuvers, flew down to the QE2 bridge (for those of you in London) then flew back and brought the plane down to 150ft before the pilot took over and landed....
    Next.... maybe a skydive!!

    Yummy!
I love ice cream cake and I love your idea. Since my dx I spend more money on myself: cloths, hair cuts...generally girly stuff. I don't worry about what I order at restaurants: if they have lobster I am ordering.

    thought you'd like to know
Hi Jbeans... I had chemo this AM and met a woman who was newly diagnosed. I told her about your ice cream cake...... you just never know where those positive vibes will reach out and grab someone!

    That makes me smile
Mwee that is so great that you told her about my ice cream cake. It was very yummy and I still have a bunch left. I think it's definitely important to help people be positive and ice cream cake just because I can is always positive. :-)
