I'm a Newbie!

in Ovarian Cancer #1
Hi Everyone! I have been a lurker on this site for a number of months now but have now decided to join. My cancer journey began in May of 2010 at age 65 when I had a complete debulking and hysterectomy for a fairly large mass which had grown from my left ovary and my bladder and liver. My gyn-oncologist was able to remove about 99% of the tumour leaving residual cancer on the surface of my liver and bladder. Six sessions of carboplatin/taxol followed which finished last September. A year onward, I am happy to report that I am cancer-free, feeling like a million dollars and I fervently hope this state of affairs will last as long as possible. I was not told my staging and I would rather not know. I have visited other forum sites and feel this is the best one and I look forward to interacting with all of you as we all share our fears and hopes for the future.

    Thanks for your welcome, Tethys41 - I liked your remark about the entry fee we all had to pay! Yes, we're all members of a club we would rather have not joined. I believe that humour will help all of us to fight this monster!

    So nice to meet you, despite the "dues"... :). The wonderful survivors that post here have uplifted me more times than I can say. Stories like yours can be a big comfort to the newbies who come here for reassurance and support. May you feel like a million dollars for all your years in the fture.

    I myself have come here often, mostly as a lurker since Im kind of quiet/shy. I love this site and wonderful group of people. It really is comforting here. I've come here many times to research, find comfort and inspiration, and sometimes to laugh at what we can't control...but wish we could.

    I have not posted alot on this site and have been gone from it for awhile. It is a wonderful place to find friendship, information and support and encouragement. It is wonderful that you are cancer free. I was diagnosed last June at age 56 and had a CT scan in May 2011. It came back "clean" so I am very excited about that. I go next week for a CA125 test so we are praying for good news. You sound like a strong, positive woman. Whatever you are doing, keep it up, it's working!

    Dear cfont11

    Let me know what words the doctor uses when he declares your new status. I seems like some use the word "remission" and some say "no evidence of disease" or "stable disease." Just wondering...

    In answer to your question, carolen
    When my doctor gave me the results of my last CT scan, he said I was in remission. Of course, no one will know how long that will last. He did say that I was a very strong lady with a good positive attitude and he felt I looked very well. He also said I should take life a day at a time which is all anyone of us can do, whether one has had cancer or not. Life is uncertain for everyone.

    I asked him if remission was the same as NED and he said, "yes".

    I just wanted to give you a warm welcome to the board. I love this place and all the ladies on it. Regardless if we have personal support at home it's only the women here on this board who can truly understand what we are going thru. So feel free to vent, share, ask questions or just say hi. Your cancer sounds vary similar to mine. I just finished my 6th treatment and get my ct scan results on August 1st. I want to hear that I am NED sooooo bad. Your story was very inspiring to me. Thank you

    Clean CT scan
    My doctor said "clean, nothing there that should not be there". I go see her next week so I will ask about remission and NED. We were just so relieved when we got the results that I did not ask too many questions. I am so happy for all the NEDS out there!
