Gift to surgeon - is this appropriate?

I was browsing embroidery designs this evening and came across a design titled "A Gentleman and a Robot". See it on my Expressions page.

As most of you know, I had a robotic assisted hysterectomy last year. I've always thought of my gynecologic oncologist as such a gentleman (and a nerd). When I saw this design I absolutely went nuts - it's him! He even has a mustache. I'm thinking of embroidering it on a surgical hat and presenting it to him when I see him again on the 18th. I just don't know if he has the humor to not be offended and/or if a "gift" is even appropriate. A surgical hat brings in the medical part of him and was just the most appropriate thing I could think of to embroider it on.

What do you think? And if I do it, should it be before or after the exam? After I think. He might hurt me if he's embarassed or offended.

Run with it, Suzanne! I think it's a great idea and he will be touched, no doubt! I gave thank you cards to my surgeon and for helping me with my recovery. She was moved and said it( the card) meant a lot to her. My other doctors received thank you cards as well.

Let us know how it went.

    Don't know your surgeon
But my RO and I had a not so great visit at 1 point where he basically "decreed" what my behavior would be for the next 2 weeks.(I think he was having a bad day) Last week when I only had 2 boosts left and I knew he would be on vacation for my graduation, I took him a bottle of "rare Tennessee whiskey", plus a thank you card telling him that putting up with me earned him a "stiff drink", and a huge bag of junk food and card for the staff (I did check with the staff to make sure he enjoyed an adult beverage now and then) They were all thrilled, including my RO and thanked me in a way that showed they were genuinely pleased. So, my rambling point is...it feels like the right gift, make it for him, and include a note so he knows exactly how the gift is meant.

I think it's appropriate and envy your talent to make it,

my beau gets stuff all the time...
and he really appreciates it!!! Especially when it's hand made!!! I curl up with a handmade blanket one patient made for him with his name on it...he gave her a baby!!!!

I gave my surgeons each a 5 pound box of Godiva (I am not creative like you, dearheart) with a card saying:

"I came with a colon, left with a semi-colon, and lost my period...so is my cancer life punctuated!"

They all loved it (and I got a small box just for my gastric surgeon's nurse...she was wonderful!)!!!!!

    I say Yes! Do it!!!

I think, if you're happy with someone or someone
went above and beyond the call of duty, it's always appropriate to give a small token of thanks. After I finished chemo, I baked my med. onc. and onc. nurse (both females)my famous chocolate chip cookies and brought them in each a soy candle with a lovely fragrance. I did not know what to buy for my surgeon (male) so I brought him a batch of the cookies as well. They were all thrilled and I felt good too.

If it's in your heart then do it
Most people think because a dr. makes so much money that should be enough. The drs. that stand out I usually give a card, and a thank you.

I told my surgeon that he was made to be a surgeon, but more than that he was a wonderful man. He was taken aback, but he was touched. You never know what a kind word or gift will do for someone, yes including drs. Their people to, and deal with emotional issues like the rest of us.

Thoughtfulness is never a bad thing.
It isn't an extravagant gift. Just something thoughtful. I think it sounds perfect!
