My post-Op progress

Well, just a short 72 hours ago, I had the MIE here at UPMC. I am doing wonderfully. I was up walking yesterday while I was still in SICU while waiting on my room. The clinical staff in the SICU are and the 7th floor are have both been incredible. They have attended to my every need. I am still NPO pending the swallowing study but I can still have icr chips and water for my sponge sucker. I requested my incentive spyometer as soon as I was extubated to start working with. I am so so so so glad I quit smoking several years ago. So far the worst problem has been being awake for a few hours while on the vent. Before they take you off the vent, they need to see if you cab breath on your own so you have to be awake. I am horribly clausterphobic so this as tough on me but it made sense. I am expected to stay in until Friday if everything goes as it has been.

Take care everyone!

Jimbo

    Great news!
So happy to hear that the nurses and staff at Presby are still as attentive as they were when my husband was there in Feb. I was worried that things had changed dramatically after some recent comments on this site. Best of luck as you continue your recovery. You have a good attitude which I think really helps. I'll keep you in my prayers. Just remember-one day at a time!

Great to hear you are doing well
    Jimbo,

It is wonderful to hear you are doing so well. I remember the ice chips and sponge sucker. My nurse told me if she caught me swallowing that would be history. When I passed my swallow test they gave me a popsicle. It tasted great!

I will be praying things continue to go well and the swallow test and pathology are what we want to hear.

    Best Regards,

I am so happy that all went well with your MIE. Sounds like you're recovering nicely. If you're like me, I'm one of those people that wants to feel better.......RIGHT NOW. Sounds like it may not be right now, but in the very near future. I'll keep praying for a speedy recovery.

    Great!
    Jimbo,
Happy to hear all is going well. After my swallow test I was allowed a pill cup of water every hour for the first several hours. Then I got my own tub of Italian ice, that was a treat I’ll never forget.
    Hang in there my friend,
    Joel

Just talked to the doctors and all is going well. Today I will lose my chest tube and the plan is to be looking towards a possible Friday discharge. All things considered, I feel great. Take care everyone.

    Great News
I'm glad to hear that so far things are going well. I was up the day after surgery and spent allot of time sitting in a chair and walking as much as I could. With all the drains and connections it's truly a crazy experience to go through. I don't know about you, but the stomach drain that went through my nose and hurt every time I swallowed drove me nuts. I think what kept me going was the desperation of getting that thing out of my nose. I can laugh about it now which is a good thing and you will too. Remember, Each day away from surgery, things improve and by the end of the week when you go home, the rough part is far behind you. Again, I'm glad to hear you're doing well. Stay positive.
