Hi All,
I just wanted to tell our esophageal cancer friends and our friends from the Y90
group for liver cancer therapy that **** and I were contacted by the NBC
affiliate, WKYC, in Denver to be interviewed along with ****'s oncologist, Dr.
Madeleine Kane, about his therapies and successful treatment for Stage IVB
esophageal adenocarcinoma. The interview will take place in October. but do not
know the details as to when it will be broadcast.


NBC supposedly will archive the interview on the national network site, so that
it can be accessed through any NBC affiliate website in the United States. I
will try to get exact details when the time comes. about how to do this.
However, I will also be happy to ask any questions or bring up any issues that
you all may have that are relevant to our discussion during the interview.


**** and I hope that we can make further inroads into the barrier of resistance
among cancer centers to treating Stage IVB patients with liver metastases. It
is so apparent to us that Stage IV cancer IS treatable and survivable, if a 70+
year old survivor of coronary artery disease and quadruple artery bypass
surgery can defeat this cancer diagnosis. **** is now officially a 5 year
survivor of freedom from all cancer by PET/CT surveillance since June of this
year.

The therapy that **** had was unique at the time, and the philosophy and timing
of treatments was unusual from what we can gather from others. We just hope that
getting more information out there will be helpful to all and that there will
be more success stories like ****'s in the future. His case report is due to be
published in a cancer journal soon, so perhaps others will benefit from his
successful therapies. I will be sure to let all know the citation and date of
publication.

Lois Dickerman, PhD

Wife of Richard, dxed Nov 2004 with Stage IVB esophageal adenocarcinoma with
metastases to lymph nodes, lungs, and liver. Treated with chemotherapy then in
clinical trials for stomach and intestinal adenocarcinoma, yttrium 90
microsphere irradiation for liver tumors (www.sirtex.com), multifocal
irradiation over 28 straight days to primary tumor site in esophagus, and
finally SCBT cyclotron irradiation over 3 straight days to 4 recurrent lung
tumors.

Free of all cancer since June, 2006.

    Thank you for sharing this information. I look forward to seeing the NBC interview. That is truly amazing to have a stage IV survivor five years later! It gives us all hope even if we aren't a stage IV. We never know if or when it could happen.

    Hi Paul,
    Thanks again for posting some invaluable and amazing information!! We all know there is a risk that EC will come back so this news is exciting for everyone and esp for those who will face liver problems and the fact that this man has survived so many years starting out with stage IV is just astounding!! thanks again for your info and take care,

    Wow! That is exciting!!!!!!! May the gentleman in question have many more years of being cancer free. The treatment sounded challenging but hey! 5 years. Cancer free!! Very interested in hearing about how his team "cooked up" this recipe for treatment. Let us hope others can benefit from his treatment regimen. Mary

    I do not have the specifics of his treatment regimen. However, I am sure if you send Lois an email at lxd4@ATT.NET she can give you more specifics. I know that the treatment her husband received was not the typical treatment regimen.

    It included:

    Welcome to our discussion board. My husband is also a stage IV ec survivor who is being treated at MD Anderson in Houston. He is 54 years old and was diagnosed the first of October with ec with mets to the bones. He is seen by Dr. Jafer Ajani, and was on T-FOX every 2weeks for 6 weeks, then on a clinical trial, and now on Erbitux and Irinotecan every three weeks. His last scans showed great improvement. Dr. Ajani prescribes the chemo and Rickie has been receiving it in our hometown administered by our oncologist here. As Rickie says, Dr. Ajani treats the cancer, and our doctor at home treats the symtoms. We have been very pleased with the level of care that we have experienced at MDA as well as at home. If there are any questions I can answer let me know.

    Hello im am new here .
    Hello im am new here . Mother was diagnosed with EC Last week. In for the Endoscopy next friday. Glad this is here now , for support! I will keep you posted . Stay positive out there !

    Well just found out mother has stage iv and will start chemo this mon - 8/8/11 paclitaxil and cisplatin , well keep everybody posted .
