Recovery should go good. Walking will help relieve he gas. I had RRP Dec. 2010. Just remember there is a light at the end of the recovery tunnel and its not a freight train. It took about 3 months for me to get back to "normal". Others on this site have had faster results and some longer. Just remember everyone is different. A good sense of humor is the best therapy. Keep us in the info loop.

I am glad to know about your surgery (robot). Congratulations.
Have you received any report? What is your pathological stage?
I recall that you were worried for possible spread to the nerves prior to surgery.
I hope that the cancer was contained and that you recover the soonest.

Thanks, no reports yet,will see surgeon on friday.All went well,got all of the prostate and lyphnodes.Doesnt seem to have spread.Nerves are intacted.Will keep ya'll updated.And yes now I AM A SURVIVOR!!!!!!!! A great club to be in.Thanks to all.0 -

I'll echo everything said here. First off, cath removal is Liberation Day. You are free from the "plastic ball-and-chain" and can get moving somewhat freely again. You'll feel 100% better just because of that.
I'll also second that a sense of humor is a huge help. After being home a couple weeks and on pads, my wife would describe my condition as if describing a baby - "he's sleeping through the night and doesn't need to be changed as often now."
I'll add the advice not to get impatient in your recovery. Let it take time and don't get discouraged. Gauge your progress week-to-week rather than day-by-day. Daily progress may appear slow, but week to week you'll see improvement. See you at the next "Survivors Club" meeting. Newest member has to bring the donuts.0 -

Sorry to hear about the setback with the foley. To me, the catheter was the worst part of the entire process. (Well, maybe the biopsy too.) Unfortunately, the foley is a vital part of the process and there's no way around it. Hope all goes well and he's home before you know it.
I've got to ask a question about your screen name. On the old classic **** Van **** show, wasn't Pickles the name of Buddy's wife? Just coincidence or a fan of the show? AS you can tell by my handle and photo, I'm a fan of classic comedy.0 -

Surgeon said all looked very .......BUT......in the path report they found something that looked like it was trying to push through a membrain ( not exactly sure lol ) now in a waiting period till July 26 when go back for follow up. He was not overly concerned,but cautious.He said if it shows any type of growth/movement, he'd recommend radiation. And so the drama continues and the journey. Maybe you guys know what I'm trying to say. I'll be in touch.0 -

I think it would be good for you to keep in your possession a copy of the pathologist report. I wonder what have they found or the meaning of “.. trying to push through a membrane…”. Sincerely your doctor should give you “key” information on your status. Such as Gleason grade and score, volume of cancer, pathological stage, etc. All of these is written in the report post-surgery.
I wish that the cancer is all OUT of your body and hope you recover the soonest.

I did get my results from the path. post op. Right and Left lyph nodes no tumor seen.Largest focus left side,2cm,Gleason 3+4 score 7 with minor component of 5;tumor extends outside prostate capsule.and shows perineural invasion. Next largest focus right side,1.2 cm Gleason grade 3+3 score 6 with extention to inked surgical margin where capsule is disrupted. Tumor also present in right apex,but apical margins free of tumor. Bladder free of tumors. I know this extentive,Gama,but it brings it all to point now.Maybe you'll understand it better than me.LOL Thanks Randall PS is a grade 50 -

I am with you. The report indicates a risky probability for recurrence. However, there are a series of treatments to handle your case to success. The report may include other vital information that you did not posted such as; seminal vesicles involvement and the volume of the cancer.
Your pathological stage is pT3apN0, similar to my case but I was Gs 6 (5 in the old standards), a lesser aggressive type of cancerous cells.
You have not given particulars of the pre surgery data which are elements important to your future management of the cancer (if any), such as; PSA chronology, BPH history and your age.
You have to wait for the PSA results (4 to 6 weeks post-op) to get the opinion from your doctor. PSA is the only marker that will indicate if in fact the surgery has been successful or if you get to recurrence.
Hopefully even with positive margins and capsular penetration, you fall into the group of the lucky ones.
