Hi all, I know stents have a mixed reputation here, but have just started a blog as we go on this journey. Should you wish to follow along, please see the blog.

    Hi JoJo
    Welcome. I was a caregiver for my dad. He passed in March 2010 from EC with mets to the liver. He had a stent put in his esophagus as well as his bile duct in his liver. They worked just fine for him. He got them put in in December, unfortunately he passed away that March. The cancer killed him, along with dehydration, not the stents. Hope this helps.

    Thanks, Tina. Glad to hear your Dad got some relief. We are looking for a good result here, too. Wish us luck--we are going down to Boston tomorrow to have the procedure. I will report on the details in my blog and a short one here, too.

    I wish you good luck with the stent. My husband had one placed in November 2010 and it helped him a lot....was able to eat a soft diet....unfortunately he passed away in March but it had nothing to do with the stent. His GI dr felt it was the way to go and we were happy we made the decision to go with it. Will keep you in my prayers.

    I'm so sorry for your dear husband. Your comments here helped me quite a bit.
    It's a bit nerve-wracking the night before. And this is only for a stent placement! How you brave folks manage to stay focused before esophagus surgery is amazing. I guess, no matter the stage, we're all looking for a good outcome and for some relief for ourselves or our loved ones.

    It's in; we're home
    I updated my blog tonight. The stent is in; we are home. Long day, everything went well.

    Glad the procedure went well, and you are back home. He should be doing much better now. Take it slow. No big steaks on the grill just yet! Soft foods. Keep us up to date.

    I think Steve had too cavalier an attitude with his new stent. He wasn't chopping his food up, "I chew it up really well". Famous last words, as yesterday he got a piece of chicken stuck. The gastro guy told him if he was getting anything by the blockage, he could try ginger ale and cranberry juice, alternately, every 15 minutes. If not, well, endoscopy awaited. This morning, early, Steve was able to proclaim the "all's clear"! And a newfound appreciation for cutting up food into small bits, too. What a relief.

    You live and learn with this that is for sure! Yes, chop up meats very small, or put them in a blender. Also chew the meats very well. Sounds like you are on the right track. Best of luck..Keep us posted.
