    Not better
but it should work. Oxaliplatin (Folfox) and Irinotecan (Folfiri) are the two primary chemo-therapies for CRC. Oxaliplatin builds up in the system, and from what I can tell is usually used only for the one round (usually 12 treatments over 24 weeks).

Side effects are different for both, and a lot depends on the patient. I know I handled Folfox pretty well, and I am getting Irinotecan now with Erbitux.

The most well known effect of Oxaliplatin is the sensitivity to cold. You will want beverages that are tolerable at room temperature, or maybe warm. Protein intake should be high, and the doctor might prescribe an iron supplement. One of the things I did with the protein powder was put it in my coffee, just know that it works best to mix it in a blender.

Jorge should do fine, however, if any symptoms develop don't be afraid to call the doctors exchange, even if it is late at night. It is always better to play on the safe side.

    Folfox
    Hi,
I had the 11 of 12 Sessions of Folfox. The first 3-4 treatments went fine but I noticed the chemo became concentrated in the body with each treatment and by the 5th my body said take a break due to low WBC and platelets. I read about the side effects and had my gloves for the fridge but I did not realize that breathing the cold air with moisture would cause one to lose one's voice or that one would feel the sharp pain back of the throat.

I ate small meals frequently. Chicken, rice, broth and drank lots of decaffienated tea. I followed the Chemo diet and ate lots of vegetables on my good week. My son encouraged the protein so in morning decaf coffee I had the protein powder as a creamer. Nutrition is important as well as good proteins: chicken, fish, seafood. Walking, prayer and emotional support helps one feel positive.

Due to finishing 11 of 12 sessions Folfox I have nueropathy in my hands, and feet but I am reading that with the breaks in the 12 treatments one can hopefully avoid permanent effects.

When he feels the worst encourage him to visualize the chemo shrinking the tumor.

    Praying for you both.

    Everyone reacts differently
Everyone reacts differently to a chemo cocktail, but I was on Folfox, and did great! I hope you all have the success I did! Maybe look into L-glutamine to help ward off some neuropathy.
