Hi -- I hope you are all doing well.

I am from the bc forum and thought this question may be more appropriate for this forum.

Has anyone here removed their ovaries pre-menopausal? My friend recently removed her ovaries. She is 33. She is experiencing severe hot flashes. If you have gone through this, pre-menopausal, does side effect last long? Is there anything she can do to feel better? She recently removed her breasts because of bc, ER+.So she can't take hormones. Any help will be appreciated!

Thank you. God bless you.

    Hot flashes!
    Hi lovebabyjesus,
I am 31 and haf a full hysterectomy a few months ago. I can relate to your friend because I too can not take hormones. At first I would get severe hot flashes almost every 15 minutes for a few weeks. They where so bad I could feel my heart race. My doctor put me on zoloft she said that even though it is an antidepressent it helps for hot flashes. Also, effoxer is another anti depressent they can prescribe. What I did for the hot flashes was wet a wash cloth and put it on my head and neck, it really helped. I was, and still am very emotional but that is due to the hormone depletion. My doctor says the more time that passes by the easier the side effects get because the estrogen will be less and less over time until there is none. Tell your friend to also watch out for foods that are high in estrogen. For instance, beans and flax seed oil or crushed flax seed is very high in estrogen. She can google it. I hope this helps your friend. She can email me if she wants to I am open to help. jbeans888@hotmail.com

Thank you so much for your help! You even helped me as I didn't know beans were high in estrogen. I too was dx with bc, ER+. I love beans and eat them often. I am doing it now because I am undergoing chemo and need to keep my blood count (iron) OK. Good to meet you. I will give my friend your email address and hope to connect with you again.

Thanks again and I hope all goes well with you, for many years to come.

    God bless you.

    Menopause symptoms
    Hi
I too can relate to this topic, i had a complete hysterectomy last June and was immediately put in to menopause. I suffered horrendous hot flushes and still do although they aren't quite as bad as they were. I tried Effexor but it didn't agree with me. I now try to dress with layers and also keeping 'calm' definately helps - I'm trying accupuncture for this. I also can't take ANY hormone replacement therapies!!!
My main problem however is joint pain which apparently is due to lack of oestrogen - oh the joys!!!!!

I WAS 45 YEARS OLD, NOT IN MENOPAUSE
Had total hysterctomy for OVCA, and menopause was immediate for me. But I really didn't have too much trouble - hot flashes from time to time. They seem to have subsided. Of course, I can't take any hormones either. It's been almost 12 years since the surgery, and the major problem I have now is vaginal atrophy and dryness. Tried Premarin cream in the beginning, but it caused my CA125 to rise - so, no more of that for me! And again, no other hormones or even 'bio-identical' or percursers to hormones (I avoid certains foods, etc.).

Hope this helps. Will pray for your friend - sounds like she has been through so much. Please ask more questions, anytime.

    (((HUGS))) & Prayers!
    Monika

I had a full hysterectomy at age 30. It's been two years and I still have hot flashes sometimes. I use ice packs wrapped in a towel and a fan. That really helps. Also I take Effexor XR and Klonopin to manage the emotional side effects. Good luck to your friend.
    Blessings,

    Thank you!!!
This board is GREAT! Thank you so much for all your responses. I will let my friend know. Yes, she has been through a lot the last 9 months! She is doing well though. She has two beautiful kids!

She is also on aromasin and I think this too is contributing to her severe hot flashes.

    God bless you all.

    I'm taking an herbal
I'm taking an herbal supplement called Estrovan p.m. It helps with the night sweats and also my insomnia. I have to sleep w/ a fan on and I use layers for my bedding as I'm hot 1 minute and cold the next. I was concerned w/ hormone replacement as the last thing I want is breast cancer too.
