Relay for Life

Last night I walked in the opening ceremonies of our local Relay for Life. They termed it "the inspirational survivor's walk." It was very beautiful and I felt so much love and support. For me it was a last-minute thing but I plan to get involved somehow in the year-long process that culminates in the relay. Even though we only walked one lap, I have to admit it was very tiring since a portion of it was on long grass. My cousin Chuck, who took walks with me during my treatment was at my side. At the end of my lap I got a big hug from my 87-year old mom and my cousin Marsha. The event took place at Christmas Hill Ranch. We stayed awhile, ate and watched some entertainment. We didn't stay as long as I would have liked because it turned cold and I had to get my mom home. There was another walk this morning at ten which they encouraged us to attend but I got worn out last night. These days it doesn't take much to wear me out; I know you all can relate.

    the relay for life!! Awesome job Karen. I also did the survivors lap. I felt good to get out and do something. Congrats and we will both do it again next year,,,val

    Hi Karen -

    I was registered for the Relay for Life opening ceremony in my town at the end of April. It was fun seeing the "ticker" climb with donations raised by the many teams, and I was able to contribute to several of them. I was really looking forward to the survivors' opening lap!

    When the day came, I just couldn't summon the energy to do it. I'm in Texas. It was already very hot, and the park where the relay was held had no shade and a LONG track. My stamina is low, and I have avoided the sun for many months since being on Doxil. Wah, wah, wah. :)

    In hindsight, I regret not "making" myself go for it. Congrats to you for participating!

    It felt good
    to be out in a crowd of upbeat people who are fighting our fight. I used to go out to Christmas Hill for alot of different activities. I don't know if any of you have heard of the Gilroy Garlic Festival. That is where it takes place. I need to get out more. I sometimes feel like it almost takes an act of congress to get me out of the house but once I am, I don't want to go home. I do get tired but at least it is from doing something, not from just sitting around.
