Sounds like someone is confused.
I have been on 3 month onc checks since I finished chemo 13 months ago. I always get bloodwork. I'm pretty sure my insurance wouldn't be paying for any test they didn't think were necessary so maybe you should try calling your onc again to make sure they weren't having an "off" day when you spoke to them before. Chances are someone forgot to note that you needed bloodwork. It never hurts to double check.0 -

Every 3months for me so far finished Chemo in Jan 2010. I just went last week to Onc did blood work. Next time is in Oct.Yea! Still have mamo every 6 months with ultrasound and Mri. I hope soon I will not have to back to the BS so often. Good Luck to all of us. Cindy0 -

I just had two mammos done and no blood work for those. But, it seems every time, and before, I see an oncologist I have blood work done.0 -
Who orders the bloodwork?
I see the oncologist every 3 months. I get lab work done before each appt. The mammography center is not your treating physician so it would not seem appropriate for them to be ordering lab work. There are a number of levels they are looking for every three months so I believe there was just a misunderstanding on your part on who orders the labs. I can't imagine labs NOT being required.

Thank you all for your responses. I will call tomorrow. This did not seem right to me either...what eelse would the med onc do if there were no blood work. Yesterday, it was the appointment setter who told me I didn't need blood work, DUH, but it was indeed my med onc who said in April that the surgeons office could do it on July since I was seeing them the week before seeing her anyway. Anyway, I now know that blood work should be done and I will get an appointment when I call and ask to speak to the doctor tomorrow. Once again, thank you all so much.0
