Calcified lymph nodes

Hi all,

Does anyone know what calcified lymph node means? Saw it on my CT scan report.

    My understanding is that calcified lumph nodes are no longer active and are dead and no longer in use. Lori

    Hi Sara,

    I don't know for sure, but I think anything in the body that is calicified means that it has a hard layer of calcium around it (can sometimes almost be as hard as bone).
    If this is the case in you, it could mean that they would keep showing up on a CT scan as a solid object even if it wasn't cancerous anymore. I imagine you'd then have to rely more on the PET portion of the scan to see if it/they are still lighting up or not.

    Don't take this as gospel- I'm just guessing, but I remember hearing before about other things in the body being calcified & in that case it meant that there was a coating or layer of calcium deposits on it, which usually are hard.

    What else did the scan say? Forgive me, but I don't remember hearing about your recent scan. (dang chemo brain). Was the scan just done, or was it awhile back?

    Thanks Lori, Pepe and Lisa for your input. Lisa, you are so sweet to care about my scan. You are such an amazing person and we are all so blessed to know you. You have no idea how much you mean to so many people. I wish I could give you a big hug right now!

    I had my CT on Monday. I have my appt. with the onc. Thursday to go over the results, but I went to pick up a copy of the scan and report yesterday. It showed that all lymph nodes normal with the exception of 2 very small ones that are listed as calcified lymph nodes. They are very small and within the normal size of regular lymph node. I guess my onc will explain it in more detail, although he doesn't talk much and I have to ask all the questions. I think I will touch base with Dr. Lenz and get his take on it.

    Calcified Nodes
    Hi Sara: I am on chemotherapy. I had a mammogram and ultrasound a couple of weeks ago and anusual "mass" showed up that they are pretty sure is a calcified node. They aren't worried about it but I'll need a biopsy to be sure after chemo treatments are over. But for sure ask your oncologist. Mine doesn't talk much either!
