osteosarcoma in the hip

Hello my son is 15 and was just diagnosed with osteosarcoma, it is in his hip. I am looking for someone who has had a similar diagnosis and hoping for something good because everything I have read about this disease says there is usually not a good outcome when the tumor is in the hip. Me and my son are really scared and could use some good news so if you know of anyone please let me know. Thank you very much.

    osteosarcoma in tibia
    Hello,i am a cancer survivor from turkey and i firstly diagnosed with tibia proximal osteosarcoma in 2003.the first treatment in cancer is the most important thing.so i advise you to pay attention by choosing the doctor and the hospital.

    i had a surgery for prothesis in my knee.its not a big deal ;nobody can understand that i had a prothesis on my knee if i didn't tell anything.the only problem about physical adequacy is;i can't run or crouch.now i had a job and work in a public office.

    i am sure your son is going to be heal soon.but please be carefull about nutrition.nutrition is more more more important than all the chemotherapies or surgeries or anything you can imagine.

    Good nutrition is going to save your sun..

    Thank you very much for your response it is all just so overwhelming. Everything just happened so fast I guess I am still just in shock. Once again thank you for your kind words.

    my daughter was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her pelvis 3+ years ago, and we are still currently fighting this monster. I also HIGHLY recommend searching for an oncologist and facility that has experience with osteosarcoma. Also, there is a site at www.acor.org you can go to and sign up for the mailing list for oseteosarcoma...it is people from all of the world with osteo...you can ask questions...compare notes...they become your family very quickly. I wish you all the best as you battle with your son. There are plenty of success stories, even ones with major amputations (hemipelvectomy)...hold onto your hope and faith...

    I realize this an older post, but how is your son doing? I was diagnosed with osteosarcoma back in 1976. My leg was amputated at the hip (hip disarticulation) I had one year of nasty chemotherapy. I survived, married, have 4 children and 1 grand child. I have worked steady since I graduated from college. I even ran the New York Marathon twice on crutches.

    First hope this finds you and your son doing well. I had the exact diagnosis in 2006. I went from doing everything i wanted to do to not even being able to take care of myself. Every day I thank God for my husband being so patient and taking care of me.I had to go to Vanderbilt Hospital to have a complete hip replacement. I lost 1cm above my hip joint, my hip joint, and 3/4 of my femor bone. I was able to go back to work as a certified nursing assistant 3 months later. It wasn't easy at first, but now I can do my job just as good as I did before surgery. The only draw back is now I get 4 nerve blocks every 3 months plus that pain meds and meds for fibromyalgia(nerve danage).but it keeps me going. I truly hope that this gives you and your family a lot of hope and help. BEST WISHES....
