Ostomys - a subject seldom discussed

I cannot even fathom the idea of having an ostomy. Are there any survivors out there who are living with an ostomy? Is it standard procedure during surgery? If I could get some feedback perhaps some of my fears would be alleviated. I've not even seen any posts in regard to the subject. I take that back, I did see one when I looked at a colitis discussion board. I guess we have to take the humorous approach, but right now, the outlook is iffy, and I am not laughing.

Hello, If your looking for anal cancer survivors with ostomys there are a few here on this board. Now if you go to the correctal board, you'll find more with ostomys. It depends on the stage of your cancer and what tissues are involved. Sometimes survivors will have temporary ostomys while going through treatment. I wish you well. Lori0
