CEA is only one small "tool" among many, to detect the growth
of cancer; it is -not- the single tool any physician uses to determine
your state of health!
There are so many things that can spike or decline a CEA reading,
that alone.... it's near worthless.
We read the comments regarding CEA levels, and the concern some
have about a high reading, but please... don't allow it to cause needless
anxiety and panic for yourself. As "Kim" mentioned on the other thread
about "CEA":
"It's not always very reliable so don't base your numbers on anything going on."
Live life, and enjoy today.
Best wishes,

Our thoughts and prayers are
Our thoughts and prayers are with you. I also agree a tool to help, not a exact measurement. My CEA was 1100 last June, and now 3.2 today and 3.2 over the last 6 weeks. I am also having two unknowns being biopsied next week because they want to be sure they are not cancer. CEA is not everything.
Best Always, mike0 -
Had a clean pet scan, clean
Had a clean pet scan, clean colonoscopy, mamogram, dexascan, all since last cea
I dont find anything else that pertains as to why it went up. I am waiting for my onc to call and see what he says. he is the one who got me nuts about the number. he made me get all the stuff done when the last one was up0 -
Number
It's only a number right now and not very high over the normal limit. If you are on chemo this could be the rise in level. Some doctors don't even rely on the number, therefore, don't even have that test taken. Wait to see what your oncologist says and then go from there. Please don't read more into it than that (better said than done). If all scans, tests have come out normal, it could be insignificant, but just wait for doctor's opinion. Good luck.

It is worrisome, no doubt. I
It is worrisome, no doubt. I was told by my doc. don't make such a big deal of it. There are many factors. It had been a good indicator for me, EXCEPT, this last time. Blood work perfect! he even commented on how nothing was out of whack. One last scan, showed another met to liver! so I pretty much try to maintain a it is what it is attitude. Not easy anyway we look at it. Good luck and many prayers for you.
