port

Hello beautiful teal sisters !! I had my port installed today. I was scared, but it really wasn't bad. I have a power port that can withstand the ct scans with power injectors. I don't know if thats something new or not. It actually took almost as much time to get me and the room prepped as it did for the doc to do the procedure. I am really glad I went ahead and had it done. Also had my ct scan right after, and the nurses left the iv in so I didn't have to get stuck again. I return to the onc again next week, and depending on ct results will decide on chemo treatments. Actually I guess it will be which studies I can qualify to get in. I have been reading on the board about the hipac. Maybe this will turn out to really be something that will help us all! Thanks for all the great advice. I will post again next week, but always like to read the boards. Thanks, Jackie

Hello Jackie,
I had my port placed and began chemo the same day. Mine is also a power port. I am now on my third cycle of carbo/taxol, which I do weekly (Carbo week 1, Taxol week 2 and 3). You get used to port access, it is quick and easier than having an IV done each time. Definitely better for your veins. GOOD LUCK! My chemo is going well and in one more week I will be 1/2 way done! CA125 is coming down steadily!

Glad to hear it went well. I also have a power port and I like it. I remember being sore for a few days after and it was sore to turn my head a little but that is normal and will go way. Good luck with treatment. Fight on sister.
Yes I am definitely a little sore today, but it is well worth it. I can take a shower tomorrow and take off the patch they put on. I haven't started treatment yet, but am sure it will be soon now. I am ready to get on with it !! You are correct. It is a fight, and I am ready to take it on !! This is a terrible disease, but I am optimistic since I found this wonderful site. Keep fighting on teal sisters !!!! Jackie0
